On Sunday, August 2, 2026, GABRIELA Greater Los Angeles held a Woman’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Los Angeles, CA in response to PH President Marcos Jr.’s SONA in July 2026.

Here, Filipino women across LA County gathered to learn of each other’s local economic campaigns, including the J4K Campaign based in Long Beach, discuss the PH Consulate & State’s failures to provide genuine support for migrant Filipino women’ s safety & wellbeing, and connect the root issues of exploitation & oppression to the class struggle against US imperialism.

Violence against women can take multiple forms through partner violence, economic exploitation, militarization, and state neglect. That’s why we say that a woman’s place is at the forefront of the struggle. The power to change the situation of working women is in our hands if we fight together! Organize, contribute to our campaigns, and join GABRIELA and the ND movement for genuine societal change!

Free Kaizann now! Last night, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) held its annual National Night Out to “promote strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.” This is the same LBPD that has not been transparent with the J4K campaign, Kaizann’s family, and community organizations regarding the events that changed Kaizann’s life for the worst last August. A simple request to produce body cam footage of that night’s events or other public records of the arrest remains unanswered after emailing/calling LBPD and lobbying multiple supportive politicians.

Meanwhile, Kaizann’s health continues to deteriorate in the mental state hospital. GABRIELA South Bay demands that Kaizann, currently being detained without sufficient evidence, is freed immediately. We continue to fight for a complete overhaul of carceral and health care systems that continue to prioritize profit over people and genuine rehabilitation.

Join the fight to free Kaizann now by mobilizing to his next mental court date hearing on August 17!

This past Monday, June 29th 2026, GABRIELA South Bay joined hundreds of Filipinos and allies from around the country in a march and rally to the Philippine consulate in Los Angeles, to confront and expose the Philippine’s neglect of its own people.
A delegation of migrant workers, caregivers, and mothers, including Tita Karina from the Justice for Kaizann campaign and Ate Lorna from the End Wage Theft at Amity campaign, went into the LA Philippine Consulate to assert the urgent demands of their campaigns, such as Kaizann’s release from detention, Assistance to Nationals (ATN) funds and the blacklisting of trafficking agencies and abusive employers. The Philippine Consulate met them with slammed doors and the LAPD who then escorted them out and even told them to “self-deport”. “The Philippine consulate treated us like trash!” said Tita Karina. “They did not give us the decency to hear our complaints and this building is supposed to help Filipino nationals! What they did was call the cops on us! What does that mean? Intimidation! Why? Why intimidate us? We’re just here to ask for assistance.”
GAB SB strongly condemns these intimidation tactics by the corrupt Philippine consulate, whose actions speak louder than words: they do not serve the Filipino people, especially those who need them the most. As a national democratic mass organization, we stand alongside Filipino women like Tita Karina and Ate Lorna who are merely fighting for basic rights and services, and are determined more than ever to wage their campaigns until victory!
Instead of relying on corrupt Filipino politicians and their rich masters, we must continue to unite as Filipino people and smash the 3 basic problems of Philippine society - imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism. We must carry forward the struggle for national democracy with a socialist perspective as the genuine solution of the Filipino people!

💙 Justice for Kaizann Press Conference 💙

Kaizann is a 43-year-old Filipino American and Long Beach resident living with schizophrenia who experienced police brutality and was unjustly arrested on August 21, 2025. Instead of providing him the care he needs, and was receiving in his ODR program, he is now in detention and experiencing medical neglect.

While the City of Long Beach and LBPD avoid accountability, Kaizann continues to be in detention with no clear conviction. Additionally, his arrest has resulted in his removal from the ODR program. The family is holding a press conference to share their story with the community.

📆 Date & Time: Tues, June 16, 10am-11am, arrive 9am
📍Location: Long Beach City Hall

GAB SB members were out in Long Beach today to raise funds for the Justice for Kaizann campaign! Thank you to for hosting us and giving us the space to grow in community. We appreciate everyone who has come out to support the Guerrero family as they continue to seek justice for their son, and others who are facing medical neglect and inhumane conditions while in detention. We won’t rest til Kaizann and the rest of our kababayan are free!
