The LBHDC invites to the grand opening of The Palace, a historic, two-story building now restored and renovated to serve as a home to transitional age emancipated foster youth (18-24 years old) -- one of the most vulnerable populations in our city. Residents have their own private and safe apartment at The Palace and participate in the dynamic and comprehensive Pathways program, developed and operated by United Friends of the Children.

On Saturday, August 20, hundreds of schoolchildren received backpacks filled with school supplies at a Back to School summer event. The Making Connections Alliance, with support from the Long Beach Housing Development Company (LBHDC), the Department of Parks, Recreation & Marine and the Department of Development Services hosted the Back To School summer event for the residents of LBHDC-assisted affordable housing developments in Long Beach. Councilman Steven Neal, 9th District, attended the activity filled event for the families of affordable housing developments in the City of Long Beach. The event also showcased performances by youth groups from the housing developments’ after school programs.

On May 19, the LBHDC, together with Councilmember Patrick O'Donnell, 4th District; Clifford Beers Housing, Inc.; and Mental Health America Los Angeles (MHA), celebrated the grand opening of Courtyards in Long Beach, an innovative permanent supportive housing development for low-income households including homeless individuals living with mental illness.

On April 21, the public was invited to the groundbreaking ceremony for the Long Beach Senior Arts Colony, a 200-unit, transit-oriented residential community designed for active seniors. The event was hosted by Mayor Bob Foster, Councilmember Robert Garcia and officials of The Long Beach Housing Development Company and Meta Housing Corporation.

On March 3rd, Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster, HFH GLA, the LBHDC and partner family Enrique and Sonia Lopez raised the first wall of the new four-bedroom, two-bath Habitat for Humanity home in Long Beach. The affordable and sustainable home should be completed by the end of the year.
