Azimuth Check Foundation

Azimuth Check Foundation Comprised of six board members, all of whom are veterans, except one who values the dedication and sacrifice veterans have made on behalf of this country.

Azimuth Check Foundation helps veterans and their families find their way by fostering community, identify, and purpose through year-round outdoor programs that promote wellness, resilience, and connection. we have long been aware of a gap in desperately needed wellness programs for injured warriors in Northern New England. ACF helps heroes find their way by providing injured warriors with challen

ging year-round athletic activities. It is our core belief that participation in these activities creates wellness in an atmosphere of camaraderie.

On September 3, 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed, officially ending the Revolutionary War and recognizing the United States as an independent nation.

Independence had been declared in 1776, but it took years of service, sacrifice, endurance, and resolve to secure it.

Two hundred and fifty years after our nation’s founding, we remember the people who carried the fight for independence forward and helped make a new country possible.

On September 3, 1777, American forces met British and Hessian troops at the Battle of Cooch’s Bridge in Delaware.

The battle is long associated with the first time the Stars and Stripes were carried into combat, a symbolic moment for a young country still fighting for independence.

250 years later, the flag still carries the weight of those who have served under it, defended it, and sacrificed for the country it represents.

On September 2, 1945, Japan formally surrendered aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, bringing World War II to an end.

V-J Day marks the close of a war that changed the world and shaped generations of service members, families, and communities.

We remember those who fought in the Pacific, those who never came home, and all who carried the cost of that war long after it ended.

September is National Su***de Prevention Month.

For ACF, this is not separate from the work we do. So many of our programs are built around the things that help people stay connected: time outside, shared challenge, honest conversation, peer support, and having a reason to show up again.

A veteran does not have to be in crisis to need connection. And none of us have to wait for a crisis to check in, invite someone along, or make sure they know they are not alone.

If you are a veteran in crisis or you are worried about one, support is available 24/7.

Today in history marks the day N**i Germany invaded Poland, beginning six brutal years of World War Two.

Its devastation would spread across several continents and forever change the course of human history.

> More than 15 million battle deaths
> Approximately 45 million civilian deaths
> More than 50 countries involved
> 6 million Jews deliberately murdered in the Holocaust.

The human cost was staggering. The Soviet Union suffered approximately 24 million deaths, while China suffered approximately 20 million.

Even the principal perpetrators suffered enormous losses: Germany an estimated 6.6-8.8 million deaths, and Japan approximately 2.6-3.1 million.

Behind every number was a human being with a life, a family, a community, and a story.

We mention this today for ONE SIMPLE REASON:

If history is not remembered, it can be repeated.

We remember not to glorify war, but to honor those who sacrificed, to remember those who were lost, and to remain vigilant against the forces of hatred, tyranny, and dehumanization.

We must never ever forget.

Reserve Marines carry a unique kind of commitment.

They serve their country while also building lives, careers, families, and communities at home. They are ready when called, and they bring the discipline, loyalty, and grit of the Marine Corps into everything they do.

On the Marine Corps Reserve Birthday, we recognize the Reserve Marines and Marine Corps Reserve veterans in our community.

On August 27, 1776, the fight for independence looked anything but certain.

The Battle of Long Island was a hard loss for the Continental Army. But the story did not end there. Washington’s army survived, regrouped, and kept going.

As we mark 250 years since the founding of our country, days like this remind us that independence was not inevitable. It was carried forward through courage, sacrifice, endurance, and the refusal to quit when the outcome was still unknown.

ACF and Veteran's Adaptive Sports & Training spent the last few days in the White Mountains with a group of veterans hiking to Zealand Falls Hut.

There was fog, rain, full packs, shared meals, wet gear, games at camp, time at the falls, tired legs, and plenty of moments that probably won’t make it into any formal program description.

That’s a big part of what makes these programs meaningful. The hike gives everyone a place to start, but the rest of the weekend gives people time to settle in, laugh, talk, and get to know the people beside them..

Thank you to VAST for partnering with us on this program, and to the veterans who made the weekend what it was.
