Some of you may have noticed Londonderry roads are looking a little more crisp and clean these days!

We’ve officially started Londonderry’s FIRST ever street sweeping program and we’re very very pleased with the results thus far over the last two weeks.

Some gutter and curb lines have not seen the light of day in years! We hope those of you taking notice are enjoying the dirt free look of your neighborhoods.

The importance of this task is to remove dirt, debris, small litter and organics that could flow into our catch basins and then possibly float out into our streams and wetlands. Which will choke out important vegetation and harm the environment and wildlife.

This is all required under our annual mandated MS4 permitting process with the NHDES and we’re very excited to finally be in compliance with this important roadway maintenance practice.

Enjoy!

Should you happen to spot this interesting technologically advanced looking vehicle traveling down the road or through your neighborhood, they are working for the DPW in video assessing our roadwork network and assets.

This effort is to fully assess and rate/score every town road in order to develop our PCI “Pavement Condition Index”.

Why is this necessary or important? It’s the baseline communities use to gather data and make decisions on best how to manage and maintain our over 300+ paved lane miles of roadway to keep the score stable or improve it.

Think of it as trying to maintain a good GPA back when you were in school.

Once this is achieved, we can develop and stand up a formal road program that assists us with a greater means and methodology for where it’s best to invest taxpayer money for paving operations driven by data, rather than subjective or opinionated reasons.

Other advantages is it will identify where other roadway assets are, such as: signs, curbing, paint markings, drainage basins, hydrants, valves, etc.

Should you have any questions or concerns about the project please call us at 603-432-1100 x133

A special appreciation/credit to our Deputy Director James Danis for spearheading this important effort.
