Cumberland Valley Children's Advocacy Center The CVCAC provides a coordinated approach to the investigation, prosecution, & treatment of child abuse cases in the Cumberland Valley region of Kentucky

The goal of the Center is to reduce trauma to child abuse victims by providing one-safe, child-friendly location where teams of professionals work together to pursue justice and offer treatment.

It was a tremendous honor to join Attorney General Russell Coleman in announcing the Kentucky Multidisciplinary Commission on Child Sexual Abuse’s
statewide model protocol.

The new best practices manual focuses on minimizing further trauma to young victims, while maximizing law enforcement and prosecution success in convicting sexual predators.

Amist National Child Abuse Awareness Month, it’s exciting to add another tool to the toolbox in seeking out and sending child predators to prison.

29 years ago, Commonwealth Attorney Tom Handy had a vision for child victims of abuse in Knox and Laurel counties. He wanted a place where child victims and non-offending caregivers could come to a safe - neutral place for children to tell their stories about their abuse. Tom wanted all professionals that work child abuse cases to come to one place for the child. Not the child traveling to the professionals. This place is called a Children’s Advocacy Center. We were the fourth CAC to open in the state.

Today, 29 years later the Cumberland Valley Children’s Advocacy Center is serving all 8 counties in the Cumberland Valley Development District Area, with a Satellite Office in Harlan, KY. We are still serving child victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, human trafficking and children who have witnessed violent crimes.

Tom’s vision of helping child victims continues.

Jackie works closely with our CAC, MDT and families to ensure that children are supported every step of the way. He takes time to listen. He explains difficult processes in ways children and caregivers can understand. He ensures that victims feel seen, heard and protected. But his impact reaches beyond convictions by treating children with dignity and respect.
Jackie’s partnership goes beyond professional duty – it is reflected with deep care, courage and a genuine belief in doing what is right. Jackie’s unwavering advocacy, compassion for vulnerable children, and his relentless pursuit of justice on their behalf, Jackie is truly deserving of recognition as a Legendary Partner.
