The 2026 Madison County Sheriff's Office Junior Deputy Academy. Junior Deputies will learn different tools of our trade and hear from all different experts in our line of work.

The Academy runs Monday - Thursday 9am - 3pm and consists of students entering 4th, 5th or 6th grade this coming school year.

Academy Day 2, Junior Deputies received training in the following areas:
• Madison Correctional Institution started the day with some exercises, demonstrating different tools & procedures used when encountering difficult prison inmates and transporting inmates.
• The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team demonstrating their tactics.
• Franklin County Sheriff's Office Deputy Arp explained the Project Lifesaver Program.
• Madison County Sheriff’s Office Detective Magana taught the Cadets about Spanish & Language Barriers that Law Enforcement Officers encounter.
• Marysville Police Officer Finley and Therapy Dog Mercy are always welcomed visitors each year at the Junior Deputy Academy!

Junior Deputies will return on Wednesday for another fun-filled day of learning!

The 2026 Madison County Sheriff's Office Junior Deputy Academy went into full-swing this morning at 0900hrs with fifty-five Cadets reporting for duty! Each day, Junior Deputies will learn different tools of our trade and hear from all different experts in our line of work.

The Academy runs Monday - Thursday 9am - 3pm and consists of students entering 4th, 5th or 6th grade this coming school year.

Academy Day 1: Junior Deputies were welcomed by Sheriff Swaney and Deputy R Roberts. After the welcome ceremony, Cadets received training on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Drones) with Dep W Davis and SIRAS 2; K-9 Operations with Dep M Stone and Medo; Fingerprinting, Luminal and Evidence Collection with Agents from Ohio BCI. Dep D Crabbe made a visit today to showcase his antique Paddy Wagon.

Junior Deputies will return on Tuesday for another fun-filled day of learning!

STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL IMPACT PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN MADISON COUNTIES THROUGH 415 PM EDT...

At 344 PM EDT, strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near South Charleston to near Waynesville, moving east at 40 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 45 mph.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include...
South Solon, Midway and Newport.

This includes the following Interstates...
I-70 in Ohio between mile markers 56 and 58.
I-71 in Ohio between mile markers 48 and 77.

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a sturdy building.

* At 330 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 7 miles northeast of Mechanicsburg to 6 miles east
of Springfield, moving east at 40 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.
