The London-Laurel County 911 Center is proud to announce a partnership with 988 and Cumberland River Behavioral Health to better support individuals experiencing a mental health crisis, emotional distress, substance use crisis, or thoughts of su***de. Through this partnership, 911 telecommunicators have an additional resource to help connect callers with trained crisis professionals who can provide immediate support, guidance, and follow-up services when appropriate.

This collaboration strengthens our commitment to getting each caller the right help at the right time. While 911 remains the number to call for emergencies involving immediate danger, injury, or a need for law enforcement, fire, or EMS response, 988 is available 24/7 for anyone who needs mental health crisis support. The London-Laurel County 911 Center is grateful to partner with 988 and Cumberland River Behavioral Health as we continue working to protect and serve our community with compassion, professionalism, and care.

After a day of remembrance and reflection, we pause once more to on reflect May 16th, 2025, one year after a night that changed our community forever. Our own Supervisor Heather Lauralie wrote down her recollection of the events of that night and the days and weeks that followed, and we think she speaks for all of us as we remember the ones we've lost, and appreciate our first responders, community, and neighbors that rose to the occasion and helped those in need.

This week, we recognize the voices behind the calls.

It’s National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and we’re proud to take a moment to highlight the men and women of the London-Laurel County 911 Center who show up every single day ready to answer whatever comes through the line.

These are the people who stay calm when everything else isn’t. The ones who talk callers through difficult moments while coordinating the response behind the scenes. They don’t wear badges on the street, but make no mistake, they are the first, first responders.

Every call is different, every situation is unpredictable, and every decision matters. And they handle it with professionalism, focus, and a level of dedication that deserves to be recognized far more than just one week a year.

To our telecommunicators: thank you for the long shifts, the tough calls, and the quiet work that keeps this community running. We see you, we appreciate you, and we’re proud of the job you do.

We would also like to thank SOGO Customs for the the customization of the gifts for our telecommunicators, as well as a generous donor who funded their purchase.
