Growing & Cultivating London, Ohio My name is Patrick J. Closser and I am the Mayor of the great City of London, Ohio.

Born and raised in London, I have enjoyed being a part of a thriving community of caring, down-to-earth people. Wanting to see the City that I love continue to grow, I entered local politics. In 2011, the Madison County Republican Central Committee appointed me to serve on London City Council for Ward 1. In 2012, I was elected to serve a two-year term. In 2014, I was elected to serve as City Counc

il President. I chose to use my many years of local government experience to run for Mayor. I am proud to to have been elected and to have served in this capacity since 2016. In the seven years I have been Mayor, our government has accomplished much. Parks have been revitalized and new playgrounds installed, multiple infrastructure projects have been completed and our community continues to grow. Since 2008, I have been involved in many important community service groups. I have served as chairman for the London Rhythm & RibFest and the London Fourth of July Parade committees for the past 13 years. These committees have helped me improve my leadership skills and allowed me to offer community events that our citizens can be proud of. I have also served on the Boards of the London Community Organization, the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, Community Improvement Corporation and United Way. This important work has made me aware of the community's needs and has enabled me to interact with our citizens. Listening to others' concerns and ideas has taught me that we all must work together to be successful. I did not join these groups for the sole purpose of padding my resume for my political aspirations; I joined these groups because I truly care about the City of London and I wanted to make a difference. I felt it was my civic duty to do what I could to enhance the lives of the citizens of London, Madison County, and the State of Ohio. My experience, community involvement, ideas, and passion make me who I am, and has helped me operate an effective and efficient government. Mayor's Update 5.21.2026

May has been a busy month so far. I have spent some time at the schools for multiple different reasons. I attended the LMS Life Fair, LHS signing day, spoke to all the 8th graders in their career class, attended the LMS end of school pep rally, taught Mr. Johnson’s 5th grade Junior Achievement class, attended the LES fun run day, led the LMS color run, led the LMS 8th grade honk out parade and tonight I am leading the LHS Senior parade. A key responsibility of a mayor is community outreach. Showing up, listening, and staying engaged with residents at every stage of life. Opportunities like visiting schools and teaching students matter because they help build trust, spark curiosity, and remind our young people that their local leaders are invested in them and their future. I want to thank London City Schools for their continued partnership and letting me be a part of the kids lives.

The new Police Department building is coming along. They are currently doing the interior work we look to have it completed by the end of July.

I was able to attend the National Day of Prayer hosted by the Sisters of the Lord. It was a windy day but a great event. I would like to thank the organizers for putting this on and for having me come out and speak. I also appreciate all of those who attended especially Mayor Martin from West Jefferson.

The Planning Commission met about the previously approved Cottages on Garfield had changes like the streets being turned over to the city. A conditional approval was granted at the Planning meeting with the conditions that 1. The streets met the requirements established by the city or a public development 2. The water and sewer systems were inspected and approved by Mid-Ohio during construction 3. Street lights are added, meeting the city's current requirement; 4. The stormwater system is approved by the Street Superintendent based on plans submitted and inspections by the contractor’s inspection.

The City Council finance committee met and discussed the CityLogix training which was attended by 3 council members, taking gas aggregation to City Council as legislation and the employee residency policy which is also in front of City Council for discussion and vote.

The City Council Public Service Committee met and updates were given but no legislation came out of committee. The Parks and Recreation department has installed the pickleball courts and are working on a league. Looking for grants to put up new fencing and continuing to look at the parking lot expansion. Youth volleyball has ended and now registration for adult softball and adult sand volleyball has begun. We will be having two movies in the park with the big event being on June 12th and a movie on July 24th. Thew new sensory board has been installed at Cowling Park in conjunction with Madison Health. And don’t forget to purchase your pool pass as the London Municipal Pool which we hope to open this Saturday, 5/23. The street department has been busy with getting the memorial flags up, tree work at Cowling Park, mowing, maintenance and much more.

The City Council Safety Service Committee met with the Police Department and Division of Fire & EMS giving updates.

London Police Department:
LPD participated in the STEAM event at City Hall, engaging with local second-grade students and providing educational, hands-on interaction with public safety personnel and equipment.
Officers participated in the Fairhaven “Touch-a-Truck” event, providing preschool children the opportunity to interact with officers, and explore police equipment.
Department members participated in a community volleyball event alongside LFD against the Madison County Tigers.
Personnel attended the Life Fair Career Event at London Middle School, speaking with students about careers in law enforcement.
Officers participated in the Senior Fair at the Madison County Senior Center, connecting with senior residents and providing public safety resources and community support.
The department has concluded accepting applications. Upon approval of the eligibility list by the Civil Service Commission, applicant processing and background investigations will begin.
K9 Cento successfully completed his annual State of Ohio police K9 certification, ensuring continued operational readiness and compliance with state standards.

• Hosted several students for ride time for Tolles and Grant Paramedic class.

• Hosted station tour and Steam event.
• Participated in Volleyball Match against Mad. Co. Tigers

Before I move on to the fun fact, I want to express that Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer, it is a solemn reminder that the freedoms we enjoy every day were secured through the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Today, we honor those heroes and remember the families who carry their loss with them each day. As we gather together as a community, may we never take for granted the liberties we have, and may we always strive to live in a way that honors the sacrifice of those who made the ultimate gift for our nation.

Now on to the MOLO Fun Fact which is the number 300. That is the number of children under 17 that will be getting into the London Municipal Pool for Free this year. Paul Gross attended a meeting recently and said he wanted to sponsor some single day pool passes for the youth to get in. Paul, Landon and I had some conversations and came up with the details on how we will get this done. The first thing we will do is give the London Police Department 100 passes to have in their cruisers. The Officers will be able to hand them out to kids they see around town throughout the summer. We will also be having a Free Swim Friday event at some point. We will come up with a date on a Friday where kids 17 and under will be free to enter to use up the other 200 passes. If not all 200 passes are used, we will set another date to do the Free Swim Friday again.
