Mayor Update 6.18.2026

On Tuesday I had the opportunity, along with two other Mayors and three County Commissioners, to travel to Columbus to meet with Congressman Carey. It was a roundtable discussion to talk about everything going on in our communities, central Ohio, the State and on the federal level. This was a great discussion and I appreciate the Congressman for having me out and for everything he does for our community.

After careful consideration, extensive analysis and council approval to enter into bid, the City entered into an agreement with Rumpke for sanitation services because it was the most fiscally responsible option for our residents. While we understand that some citizens preferred keeping sanitation services in-house, the reality is that continuing to operate the service ourselves would have required rate increases of approximately $7 to $9 per month in the near future to keep pace with equipment maintenance, replacement costs, and rising operational expenses.
This agreement not only avoids those increases but will actually save our residents money immediately while maintaining the same level of service they currently receive. The contract is guaranteed for three years, with the City holding options to extend it for an additional two years. Most importantly, residents will experience no interruption in service. Trash collection schedules will remain the same, and current trash containers will continue to be used. This transition allows us to provide reliable service while being good stewards of taxpayer dollars.

The new Police Department building is coming along. We continue to meet weekly and keep up on the progress daily. They are continuing the interior work we look to have it completed by the end of July.

We are continuing to monitor and go through the governmental process for people not mowing their properties. We have had contractors mow properties on behalf of the City with more coming. If anyone has a property, they would like to report a property please reach out to me or the administration office. But the easiest thing to do is MOW YOUR GRASS!

Thank you to the Merri Mac Miracle Park Board. They are finalizing plans to have two new dugouts installed at the Merri Mac ball fields. They hope to have the project completed in August. We appreciate their continued efforts and partnership.

The London Cobra show will be held by the courthouse on Saturday June 27th. They will make their way from the Madison County Engineers Office at 9:00am heading into town via Route 40 to State Route 56 (Main Street) heading south. They should be making their way into town around 9:00am with their event ending at 3:00pm. This will coincide with the London Strawberry Festival which runs from June 25th – 27th.

The London Fireworks, to celebrate 250 years of independence, will be let off at London High School on July 3rd at dark which is usually around 10:00pm.

Now on to the MOLO fun fact which is the number 55. That is how many entries we already have in our Independence Day Parade. For comparison, last year we had a little over 60 and we still have over two weeks before the parade. This is shaping up to be the biggest and best parade Madison County has ever seen. On the 4th of July we will host our Independence Day Parade with it starting at 11:00am. The parade route will be from Park Avenue head south on Main Street to First Street. Committee Meetings:

Historic Review Board:
-The board met and heard one case. Pink Envy Beauty Co. had a sign permit application. The application was for a front sign above the door and a two-sided hanging sign on the corner of the building in the historic commercial B-1 zone. The application was approved.

Council Public Service Committee:
-The street department has been very busy. Some key duties have been mowing, street repairs, storm sewer repairs and helping staff the sanitation department.
-Parks and Recreation has been busy with the pool. The municipal pool is open daily from 11:00am to 7:00pm. They do ask patrons to set up a civicplus account before coming to the pool to help with entry. Senior passes, which are free this year, are up and they look to start swim lessons in late June or Early July. Adult coed sand volleyball will start July 12th and you can sign your team up now. Our final movie night will be July 24th.
The discussion of new signage was posted. Ordinance 1062.03 was discussed which prohibits, non ADA and medical, wheeled vehicles and cycles to be ridden in the parks. Councilman Boyd spoke about allowing bicycles and e-bikes to be ridden on the walking paths and throughout the park. The committee and director did not agree.

Council Safety Service Committee:
The London Police Department has done a lot of community outreach over the past moth especially with end of school year events. They participated in the OVI checkpoint in London. The Chief assessment is ongoing with the testing being completed and interviews to be the next step. We look to hire a new Chief in the beginning of July.
The City of London Division of Fire and EMS was also busy with community outreach. The committee voted to sell the 2004 GMC Yukon and that legislation will be going to City Council.
