🚨 STATE AID UPDATES – EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2026 🚨

Please be aware of the following changes to the State Aid Program:
💰 State Aid funding has increased to $15,300.

🚒 NFIRS/NERIS reporting is no longer connected to State Aid funding.
All departments will receive the full $15,300 allotment.

📈 New expenditure limits:
• Insurance: Up to $10,000
• Utilities: Up to $4,500
• Internet: Up to $1,500
⚠️ These increased limits cannot be used on the 2025-2026 Proof of Purchase (POP). They will take effect with the 2026-2027 POP.

State Aid submissions must be received by September 30.

Thursday, District 13 Instructor Brandon Evans lead a course on Water Supply and Drafting Operations.

Firefighters trained on establishing a reliable water source when hydrants aren’t available. From proper pump setup and drafting techniques to maximizing water flow and troubleshooting common issues, these are skills that can make all the difference on the fireground.

This course was hosted by Lily Fire Dept. at the District 13 Training Center.

The Fire Commission’s Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) program allows for an additional, flexible platform to train firefighters. Thousands of students have been served through this training option since its inception in 2020.

Due to how VILT classes are structured and conducted, firefighters may use this platform to attain hours toward Basic 1 and Basic 2 certifications; certified firefighters may use this platform to fulfil the Fire Commission’s annual required training hours.

To enhance the learning experience for all, effective July 1, 2026, VILT classes will be restricted to a maximum of 75 device logins per class. Multiple participants may share a single device, provided each participant is fully visible on the device’s camera throughout the class and actively engaged in the learning process. All participants must adhere to VILT class rules.

Participants are asked not to register for a VILT class unless they intend to attend and remain for the duration of the class. Registering for a class and failing to attend, or leaving early for non-emergency reasons, prevents others from accessing training they may need to complete their certification or refresh on the topic. Persons who repeatedly pre-register for a class and do not attend will have VILT privileges revoked.

This morning, Brodhead Fire Department responded to an injury accident on I-75 northbound at the 69.8 mile marker.

Upon arrival, Engine 11 was positioned in a blocking position to protect the scene, closing the right travel lane. Command 12 was positioned well in advance of the incident as a warning vehicle to provide additional scene protection for responders and motorists.

While crews were operating on the scene, a passenger vehicle failed to move over and struck Engine 11 on the driver’s side. As a result of the collision, one Brodhead firefighter was transported from the scene to Saint Joseph Berea for evaluation and has since been treated and released. The occupant of the passenger vehicle refused treatment and transport at the scene.

Kentucky State Police Post 11 responded and is actively investigating both collisions.

This incident serves as an important reminder that Kentucky’s Move Over Law exists to protect emergency responders, law enforcement, tow operators, highway workers, and the motoring public. When you see emergency vehicles with lights activated, slow down and move over. If you cannot safely move over, reduce your speed and proceed with extreme caution.

Thankfully, today’s incident did not result in more serious injuries.
