The Valley Junior-Senior High Choir traveled to Peoria yesterday (Monday 5/11) to perform at the Gerald M. Brookhart Spring Celebration of the Arts. There was great weather for the outdoor event and even some untimely train whistles couldn't stop these performers from shining on stage for the final show of the year!

We were excited to welcome another former Spoon River Valley student back as part of our Career Guest Speaker series!

On Friday, May 8, 2020 SRV graduate Hayley Olson visited with students to share her journey from Valley to earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from Ball State University in 2025. Hayley now works at TowerPinkster in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she collaborates in a multidisciplinary design firm specializing in architecture, engineering, interior design, and landscape architecture.

Our Career Guest Speaker series highlights the many different career pathways available to students while reconnecting current students with SRV alumni who are building meaningful careers and making an impact in their communities. Thank you, Hayley, for coming back to inspire the next generation!

Our junior high Smithsonian Democracy in Dialogue students had an awesome opportunity to participate in a live Q&A with sports historian Seth Tannenbaum alongside our exchange partners from YES Prep Northline.

Students asked thoughtful questions about:
⚾ Baseball history
⚾ Why fewer young people may be connecting with baseball today
⚾ The rising cost of attending professional sporting events
⚾ The history of women in baseball

A huge thank you to Seth for taking time to speak with our students and encourage their curiosity and questions.
