When should your child start seeing the eye doctor?

The American Optometric Association recommends a comprehensive eye exam by age 1, again at age 3, and before starting school (around age 5-6).

Did you know Up to 3 conducts a free vision screening as part of our intake process?

Our fast and easy vision scanners check for issues such as:

Nearsightedness (myopia)
Farsightedness (hyperopia)
Astigmatism
Amblyopia (lazy eye)
Strabismus (crossed or misaligned eyes)

Many kids don't realize something is wrong with their vision. Some can't or don't know how to express what they’re experiencing, so it’s important for parents and caregivers to watch for symptoms like:

Squinting or covering one eye
Sitting very close to the TV or holding books too close
Frequent headaches or eye rubbing
Poor hand-eye coordination
Difficulty concentrating or reading
Avoiding close-up work or outdoor activities
Poor eye tracking
Moving their head excessively instead of just the eyes

Did you know that 1 in 4 children has an undiagnosed vision problem—and many don't realize something is wrong with their vision or don’t know how to express what they’re experiencing. Left untreated, these issues can impact academic performance, behavior, social development, and even physical safety.

With the temperature outside rising, please remember to NEVER leave a child in a car. It can take only a few minutes to reach unsafe and potentially deadly temperatures. When you're out and about this summer make sure to check your backseat every time you get in or out of your car. Create reminders to check your backseat by putting your bag in the backseat or have a stuffed animal sit in the car seat unless your kiddo is there. If you see a child alone in a car do not wait, Call 911 immediately!

Do you know the signs of Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke?
July in Utah is known for its high temperatures. Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke can strike quickly when you are out and about during the summer.
Try to do outdoor activities in the morning before it heats up or in the evening after it starts to cool down. If you do go outside during the heat of the day, make sure you and little one are staying hydrated, wearing hats and taking frequent breaks indoors.
