I went to Sandusky on Friday expecting to learn about downtown development. I came home thinking about garbage carts and Taco Tuesday. And I mean that in the best way. I was invited to spend the day with a small group of developers working on downtown challenges, just like we are in Logan. And what struck me was how similar our stories are. Sandusky has Cedar Point. We have Hocking Hills. Both places draw massive numbers of visitors, but we're both still asking the same question: How do we get more of those visitors to experience our downtowns? One of the takeaways that stuck with me was surprisingly simple. Central trash pickup. Instead of every business having its own dumpster crowded into an alley, they use a shared system. It's such a small thing, but it changes how clean and inviting a downtown feels. Then, I asked Mackenzie Spriggs of Greater Sandusky Partnership how often they do events. I expected "every couple weeks", she said daily. That really made me think. At Downtown Logan, we work hard to pull off several "larger" events each year. But maybe there's also power in small, steady rhythms a theme, a few businesses working together, more reasons for folks to to come downtown. And I didn't come home focused on what Logan doesn't have. I was proud to talk about our streetscapes, our businesses, our opportunities. We have a beautiful foundation to build from. What this trip reminded me is that the next chapter isn't just about buildings, it's about people. It's about learning from places like Sandusky, working together locally and embracing visitors as part of our community story, not separate from it. Maybe they're just friends we've yet to meet. Thank you to our new friends in Sandusky for opening your doors and sharing what you've learned. I'm excited about where downtown Logan is headed and we've got a lot more to learn.
Thank you to Luke Henry for bringing us together. The hospitality from the people of Destination Sandusky was amazing and the food at Crush W**e bar was superb. I can't forget the awesome fresh squeezed drinks at The Paddle Bar. We will be back!

Working together to make downtown a great place to be! We will be placing these awesome bike racks downtown (exact locations TBD). These were fabricated by the industrial arts class at Logan-Hocking High school and paid for by tourism.

A big thank you to both of them!

Once the construction is finalized we will install these in the most appropriate locations. The design is half of an oak leaf and the L for Logan. The bike wheel would be locked to the rack.

Its about the food and drinks of course, but the people who serve you make it so much better. These girls who represent Weaver's Bagels & Coffee are absolutely the most entertaining in our downtown. Perhaps they will someday perform on stage just around the corner at Logan Theater & Community Arts Center ? Follow them and frequent the business to keep the entertainment flowing.
