Jim Frye Board of Education

Jim Frye Board of Education JIM FRYE'S VISION FOR OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM • Where a child lives should not determine the quality of their education.

That means kids in Chapmanville, Man and Logan deserve the same opportunities. Our School Board must use funding wisely and ensure a fair and equitable distribution of resources.

• Teachers in the classrooms are who can provide the education that kids in Logan County deserve.

• Our teachers must have meaningful professional development and be involved in the decisions that concern teaching p

rocesses and educational reform.

• We must find ways to attract and hire the best teachers if we expect to provide the best education for our kids.

• We must compensate our Teachers and Service Personnel fairly for the results they deliver if we want to keep the best employees.

• Our Children must have clear goals and a vision of how they can achieve those goals to be successful students. We have an obligation to prepare our students for life after graduation.

• Business and industry partnerships are essential to better prepare students to enter the workforce after graduation and become productive, tax-paying citizens of our community.

• The Arts and school activities play a significant role in encouraging students to learn and make connections that foster school involvement and improved learning. We must find time to allow for participation in such programs as Music, Band, Art, ROTC, School Clubs and other school related activities.

• We must recognize that there is a Drug Abuse Epidemic in our community and be prepared to address it head-on in our school system.

• Our school system should strive to be a leader in education reform on a state and national level.

Thanks to LEAD for organizing a great Meet The Candidate event in Chapmanville on Saturday! It was well organized and well attended. If you didn't get the chance to attend I would say, "Take a good look at what I've done so far. Its a good indication of what I'll do after being elected.". Thanks for everyone's support and remember to vote on May 8th. Your vote matters!

What a great weekend! On Friday, I participated in a Meet the Candidate Event at the Logan Center on Three Mile Curve. I truly enjoyed meeting with many of the residents and staff members to discuss their concerns and wishes for Logan County Schools. Thanks to Betty Conn for setting up the event!

Then on Saturday, I spent the entire day in the Man area meeting some wonderful folks to talk about my campaign. With help from some supporters, I was able to talk with a lot of residents and business owners on both Buffalo Creek and Huff Creek. Through the morning rain and afternoon sunshine, the warm welcome I received was great. This is the fun part of campaigning!

I ended the weekend on Sunday at church with my family, then straight to Granny Jack's at Cow Creek. If you haven't tried the buffet at Granny Jack's on Sunday, you are missing some of the best chicken & dumplins anywhere. It is always good to see so many friendly faces when I go there.

Committee to Elect Jim Frye is a community group supporting Jim Frye for election to the Logan County Board of Education.

Looking forward to speaking with the residents and staff at the Logan Center on Three Mile Curve this Friday afternoon. This Meet the Candidate event is a great way to bring the candidates face-to-face with some folks who want to be informed voters, but may not be able to attend other events. My wife's grandmother was once a resident of the center and an active voter.

God bless those who were affected by the recent flooding. We are fortunate to live in such caring communities throughout Logan County with folks helping others to recover from the damages. Yesterday I heard many announcement about churches volunteering as distribution points for help and the L.E.A.D. Community Organization was set-up on the First Christian Church's parking lot to collect water and cleaning supplies. We are always fortunate to receive outside help, but we are also blessed to receive help from within our communities. That's one of the reasons I am proud to be from Logan County!

Congratulations to the Logan Wildcats and Chapmanville Tigers for all the excitement they gave us during their very successful seasons. Now everyone needs to cheer on the Man Hillbillies as they prepare to play at the State Tournament tomorrow at 1pm. The game will be broadcast live on WVOW, but I plan to be there to support the boys from Logan County. Go 'Billies!

FINALLY! Taking a stand to do something about teaching our kids to take the WesTest. And did the article actually mention art, music, foreign language, civics, technology, physical activity and nutrition? Yes it did! It actually mentioned CIVICS, the study of the rights and duties of citizens.

However, the Banner's Opinion piece ends with a word of caution, "But West Virginia, in setting its ...own measures, should take great care not to produce comforting reports that weaken accountability. West Virginians spend way too much on public schools to get the results they're getting. The public deserves basic skills measures that can be compared to other states. Pure self-evaluation would not be illuminating."

In Summary: I believe the No Child Left Behind Act was passed with the best of intentions, it just didn't work for us! This appears to be a good move by the State Board, but we had better keep a close eye on this one!

No Child Left Behind Act - In 2001 former President George W. Bush citing the soft bigotry of low expectations proposed the No Child Left Behind Act. Backers hoped that high standards and measurable goals would hold public schools accountable f...

CHAPMANVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS FILLS LOVE IN A SHOEBOX - A picture found in the Logan Banner on Thursday read this below it: The National Jr Honor Society at CMS participated in the operation Christmas Child Love in a Shoebox. The students filled their shoeboxes full of gifts to be sent to children in other countries who are less fortunate at Christmas. Pictured are Josh Bazzilla, Devin Perry, Ashlee Farley, Destinee Fouch, Lasya Pidaparthi, Kory Sanders and Christina Osborne, and standing, Roy Mann, Tracey Adams, Andrew Bias, Hannah Rakes and Marisa Bartram.

Way to go CMS students!!! It is refreshing to read good news about what our kids have been up to. I'm sure your efforts made a difference in the lives of some less fortunate kids at Christmas time.
