Today is Kelly Koenig's last day working for NRCS.

The commissioners would like to thank Kelly for his 20 years of excellent service. In his 20 years Kelly has helped in constructing 316 miles of terraces in Harrison County!

Today, Secretary Mike Naig announced that farmers and landowners can now sign up for state cost share funds. These funds help farmers adopt soil health and water quality practices, including planting cover crops, transitioning acres to no-till/strip-till soil management or applying a nitrification inhibitor.

Today, an order canceling all live bird exhibitions at fairs and other gatherings of birds due to highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) was announced. The order prohibits live birds from being sold or transferred at livestock auction markets, swap meets and exotic sales too.

The Department’s order begins immediately and is effective for a minimum of 30 days, and until 30 days has passed without confirmation of a new infection of HPAI in domestic poultry in the state of Iowa. To read more, visit: bit.ly/OrderCancelingPoultryExhibitions.

Today, Secretary Mike Naig announced the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship awarded nearly $250,000 in grants to help 13 Iowa farmers, businesses and non-profits increase or diversify their agricultural product offerings.

Reminder the Harrison County SWCD has a scholarship available to High School Seniors that reside in Harrison County and are going into an agriculture degree. The applications are due Feb. 18th.
