At approximately 6:30pm yesterday, a vehicle was traveling west on Buckram Rd in Locust Valley when it left the roadway and struck the firehouse and caught fire. Several members were at HQ for a meeting scheduled later in the evening and immediately jumped into action, pulling the driver from the vehicle and extinguishing the fire. The district’s paramedic immediately began treating the driver and he was transported to North Shore Manhasset Hospital. The vehicle itself caused structural damage to the building and required to response of the Nassau County Tactical Rescue team Matrix which included Bethpage, North Bellmore, Bellmore, and Manhasset Lakeville Fire depts which are all specially trained in building stabilization. While we dealt with the incident, additional coverage for any other alarms were supplied by Glen Cove, Sea Cliff Fire Depts, and Glenwood fire company. Additional support was provided by the Nassau County Police Dept.,Town of Oyster Bay public safety, and the Town of Oyster Bay buildings dept. The incident was finally cleared just after 11pm. All operations were under the command of Chief of Department Bonislawski.
