In observance of Juneteenth, LTHS District 205 offices and facilities are closed today.

On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom by Union troops—more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. This day, known as Juneteenth, is widely recognized as the end of slavery in the United States.

Today, we honor the significance of Juneteenth by reflecting on freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality for all. As we commemorate this important day in our nation's history, we remain committed to fostering a community where every individual is treated with dignity, respect, and opportunity.

Thank you to State Representative Dagmara Avelar for her continued support and partnership with LTHS D205.

Representative Avelar recently secured a $284,575 Uniform Capital Grant for Site Improvements through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. This funding will support much-needed roofing material replacements at Central Campus, helping us maintain safe and reliable learning environments for our students and staff.

We were pleased to welcome Representative Avelar to campus alongside Board Member Candace Gerritsen, Neil Offerman of Berglund Construction, and two LTHS students participating in Berglund's summer internship program. Their presence highlights the strong partnerships that help support our schools and provide valuable opportunities for students.

Due to storms expected this afternoon & evening, all LTHS operations and facilities, including the CWC, will close at 3:00 PM today as a precaution.

We are asking that all staff and student events end by 3:00 PM. In addition to this message, we have asked coaches and activity sponsors to communicate directly with their teams and groups regarding events or practices scheduled after 3:00 PM.

Please stay safe and monitor weather conditions throughout the day.
