Sidney Fire Department Lieutenant Rick Slife Retires After 26 Years of Service

After more than 26 years of dedicated service, Lieutenant Slife is retiring from the Sidney Fire Department, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, integrity, and commitment to the community and his fellow firefighters.

Rick began his career with the Sidney Fire Department on November 21, 2000, and was promoted to lieutenant in 2008. Throughout his career, he earned the respect and admiration of those who had the privilege of serving alongside him. Known for his wisdom, authenticity, and strong principles, Rick became someone others routinely turned to for advice and guidance.

His steady leadership, calm presence, and willingness to help others made him not only a respected officer but also a trusted friend and mentor. Those qualities will continue to define him even as he begins retirement.

Rick was a steadfast advocate for his crew, never hesitating to stand up for those under his leadership. His honesty, integrity, and willingness to speak the truth—even when it was difficult—earned him the respect of colleagues throughout the department.

During his career, Rick received several letters of commendation and performance awards. In 2005, he was honored as Firefighter of the Year, a reflection of his dedication and outstanding service.

As he enters retirement, Rick looks forward to relaxing and enjoying the life he has worked so hard to build. Spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and pursuing his passion for hunting are at the top of his list.

Rick and his wife would also like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to IAFF Local 912 for their support and for making his final day on duty especially memorable.

All of us at On Scene 24 would like to wish Lieutenant Slife a happy, healthy, and well-deserved retirement.
