Tonight, Lockhart Planning and Zoning Commission met to discuss and vote on recommended changes to the development code regarding data centers and crypto mining facilities. Thanks to massive public input, P&Z ultimately decided to recommend limiting data centers to only be authorized inside “Industrial Heavy” zones [instead of Industrial Heavy and Industrial Light originally proposed] with Specific Use Permit, excluding the Flood Hazard district. The Commissioners also pledged to continue working on tightening regulations in the coming weeks and months.

While we ultimately need to ensure data centers are not permitted in Lockhart, or at the very least consider a moratorium, we appreciate the P&Z commissioners for thoughtfully hearing out the community’s concerns.

The recommended code change will now proceed to the June 16th City Council meeting where we need the community to show up again to say: no data centers in Lockhart!

Attention: The City of Lockhart Planning and Zoning Commission is considering a new policy on Data Center zoning this Wednesday evening at 7pm at City Hall. This policy would clear a path toward data center [and crypto mining facility] development in Lockhart with minimal regulation or community input.

Please show up to City Hall on Wednesday to let P&Z know: Data Center development should not be permitted or facilitated by the City of Lockhart, period! At the very least, the P&Z Commission should wait to amend the development code until the community has an opportunity for more input and discussion.
