Earth Day has never meant to live for just one date on the calendar. 🌎 ♻️ 🗺️
The Earth Day theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” challenges the idea that caring for our planet is symbolic or even optional.
We want to provide some inspiration and choices for after Earth Day ends, and what choices we can make in homes, workplaces, classrooms and our community:
✅ Reduce energy use, unplug appliances and turn off lights that are not being used. Over a year, they shape demand on power systems. Adjusting this does not require a sacrifice, only awareness and follow through
✅ Cut down on food waste. In the USA, it is estimated 30-40% of our food supply becomes food waste. This can also be cost saving. Ideas include meal plan, cooking appropriate portions, and use or cook purchased food before it’s expiration date
✅ Car pool to events that involve other family members or friends
✅ Recycle correctly. Remove all tape from cardboard boxes (if not recyclable tape), check the number on the bottom of plastic containers, and always remember, “clean, rinse and dry,” before placing items in the recycling. Estimates state that 15-45% of materials places for curbside recycling can end up in landfills due to contamination
