It's only a week away!

Join us from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13 for the Greenmead Historical Park Fall Flea Market. With more than 160 vendors offering vintage and unique finds, there’s plenty to explore. Admission is $3 for ages 12+; children 11 and under are free. Please bring cash. No ATM is available.

Free parking is offered at the Special Events lot on Newburgh Road and the Farm Complex lot on Victor Parkway, both just south of 8 Mile. Vendor spots are sold out, and any outreach from unofficial channels is a scam. Vendor spots are non-transferable. Please report suspicious activity.

Do you love to sing? The Livonia Civic Chorus is looking for a few good men and women to join its 62nd season! The chorus welcomes singers interested in nurturing their vocal talents while participating in choral performances.

Beginning early next week, the Livonia Department of Public Works will conduct a citywide, one-time sweep to provide chipper service for brush and branches following the recent storms. Please prepare any brush and branches as soon as possible.

Tree branches and limbs must be longer than four feet and up to four inches in diameter. Stack branches with all cut ends facing the same direction (preferably toward the street) to ensure crews can efficiently complete the sweep.

Residents may also dispose of wood waste for free at the Wood Waste Disposal Facility on Glendale Avenue, east of Farmington Road. For details, visit Livonia.gov/1447.

City of Livonia offices, all branches of Livonia Public Library, Greenmead Historical Park, the Livonia Senior Wellness Center and the 16th District Court will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7. The Kirksey Recreation Center will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be NO trash collection on Labor Day. Trash collection services will be delayed one day for the rest of the week.

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning for Livonia from 3:48-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3.

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

The City's Public Works staff are clearing roads and sidewalks, and dragging branches to the curb. Pickups are largely service request driven by calling (734) 466-2655 or emailing [email protected], but DPW will continue working through the city as storms pass. Please be patient as we allow our staff to safely take care of all 36 square miles of the city.

If you are ever unsure whether a message or request is legitimate, stop immediately and contact the City directly. Do NOT use any phone number or link provided in the suspicious message.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Livonia from 10:47 p.m. Sept. 2 until midnight Sept. 3.

From Livonia Public Safety: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the City of Livonia. Wind gusts of 70 miles per hour and half dollar size hail is expected. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. Prepare immediately for large hail and damaging winds. People outside should move immediately to shelter inside a strong building. Stay away from windows.

The City of Livonia hosts a cooling center today/Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Kirksey Recreation Center from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Livonia Senior Wellness Center 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. for residents looking for refuge from extreme heat during operating hours.

The Rec and Senior Wellness Center have facilities that can provide short-term heat relief for those who may need it. There are also Wi-Fi access and televisions available, along with plugs for cell phone chargers. There are no overnight accommodations.

The City of Livonia, along with the Wayne County Department of Health, is monitoring the presence of the Aedes albopictus, also known as the Asian tiger mosquito. This species is new to Michigan and is recognizable by its black-and-white striped body. Unlike most mosquitoes, it is active and bites during the day.
