Soon this man will have a family of his own and will fill his niche in the rivers of Tickfaw State Park.

Thank you all for your support so we can continue our efforts! It’s all worth it for moments like this!

‼️UPDATE— OUR PHONES ARE NOT WORKING AT THIS TIME SO IF YOU HAVE A CONCERN PLEASE EMAIL US ([email protected]) OR MESSAGE ON FACEBOOK.‼️

Our injured Hawk from NOLA turned out to be a Cooper’s hawk!

Upon our intake exam we found no signs of malnutrition or infection. We did find a pretty severe wing injury BUT miss Leslie said that it may be able to be pinned and potentially heal. Only time will tell!

Thank you all for your dedication to injured wildlife and the willingness to help us transport them!

If you’d like to be a transport volunteer just message us on Facebook and we will get you signed up!

Please message us here on Facebook to confirm the transport and any questions you may have!

Thank you in advance!

🦅Found this interesting piece in the aviary last week from a pellet of one of our Red Tailed Hawks

Most birds of prey produce pellets! Pellets are regurgitated indigestible waste products from prey items that are eaten whole. They usually consist of bones, feathers, teeth, and fur.

🤔Can you guess what animal this partial skull came from?❓

Did you know owls have whiskers?? 😱

If you look closely at our baby Great Horned Owl you can see them! These structures are known as rictal bristles and are similar to the whiskers on your dogs and cats!

👀✨Owls have VERY keen farsightedness BUT they can’t see as well near to their face! That is where the “whiskers” help by allowing the owl to feel for their food or even their chicks.

This baby in particular knows that when food is present and those whiskers are stimulated, there is a piece that is ready to eat! 🥰

Hungry Hungry Horned Owl 🦉

Our baby GHO is growing RAPIDLY! It is eating about 3-4 mice per day on average and it’s adult feathers are starting to show! 😍

These meals can get quite expensive so if you can, please help us out by donating to our PayPal via our website!

🦉Say hello to one of our newest intakes, baby Great Horned Owl

Peep those already SHARP talons!💅🏻

When this baby is old enough to hunt on its own, those talons in combination with a grip strength of 200-500 psi on average (up to 10x stronger than an average human) will be essential for immobilizing its prey!
