Livingston’s Board of Aldermen will be discussing and possibly voting to allow BILLBOARDS within our city limits at their meeting this Monday, February 3 at 6pm. Here are some thoughts about billboards:
• Billboards detract from natural scenery and historic small-town character that attracts tourism and maintains property values
• Billboards represent urban-style commercialization and sprawl that conflict with the charm of a small town
• Billboards create visual clutter that overshadows local architectural heritage and natural landscapes
• Large billboards typically benefit outside advertisers more than local businesses
• Studies show property values often decrease near billboard concentrations
• Tourism revenue can suffer when scenic views are compromised
CALL your aldermen to let them know that you don’t want billboards in our town (their phone numbers are on the City of Livingston’s website).
COME TO THE MEETING Monday night at 6pm to show by your presence that you are against billboards OR address your comments to the Board during the meeting (you may have to sign up before the meeting starts if you wish to speak).
WE NEED THE COMMUNITY TO SPEAK OUT! See you there!
