Electric cooperatives were created to serve the best interests of their member-owners, and that's exactly what Sam Houston Electric Cooperative does. In the 1930s, the vast rural areas of America did not have access to the wonders of electricity. Sam Houston EC’s original founders first met on Aug. 27, 1938, in Polk County to plan their cooperative. On May 16, 1939, they received a charter from th

e State of Texas, and Sam Houston Electric Cooperative Inc. The Co-op began construction of its first power lines, 243 miles long, on Jan. 15, 1940, which would serve 661 members in Polk, San Jacinto, Walker and Liberty Counties. Today, Sam Houston EC maintains 6,000 miles of line serving more than 57,000 members in parts of 10 counties. Facebook Policy

Sam Houston Electric Cooperative offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day. As always, crews will be on call to respond to any power outages.

Members still may access many of our services through our mySamHouston app or on SamHouston.net. Both tools allow members to monitor electricity consumption, check account balances and place service requests.

Members can also access account information through our toll-free number, 800-458-0381, with their account number.

If you experience a power outage, please report it by calling 1-888-444-1207, or reporting it on the App.

After less than 48 hours of restoration work following Tropical Storm Edouard, Sam Houston EC line technicians, contractors and vegetation crews have fewer than 50 meters to restore of the 20,000 meters without service following the storm.

Even with this steady progress, your Cooperative will not stop until power is restored to every member that can safely receive service.

We are grateful for you, our members, for everyone on our Cooperative team, and all those who have come from across the state to help restore power to our members.

As of 10 a.m., Sam Houston EC crews have restored service to more than 19,000 locations, and fewer than 1,000 remain without service. Additional mutual aid crews joined the restoration efforts this morning.

The remnants of Edouard have formed lines of storms that are moving through the area, causing new outages and complicating restoration efforts.

Sam Houston EC understands that extended outages are frustrating, and we ask for your help in keeping everyone safe. Please do not approach crews in the field; their work requires concentration to stay safe and work efficiently.

7:30 P.M. Update: Sam Houston EC crews and contractors have restored service to more than 16,000 consumer-members. Additional storm bands from Edouard have caused new outages and increased flooding risks, but crews will be working through the night to restore service to the remaining 3,900 members.

As crews are restoring service, they are reporting serious damage, such as fallen trees and downed power lines. Often there are multiple locations that need repair along a single stretch of line. Remember to stay away from down lines and be safe when using generators. See our generator safety page for tips to keep you, your family, and the crews working on the lines safe.

3:00 P.M. Update: Crews and contractors have restored more than 11,000 consumer-members following Edouard’s slow path through our service area. Additional crews have joined in the restoration effort to restore power to the remaining 8,200 members.

There are 423 crew members in the field working to restore service to all consumer-members, and more mutual aid crews are on the way from other cooperatives across the state.

10:30 P.M. Update: Tropical Storm Edouard is impacting the eastern portion of Sam Houston EC's service area near Kountze, Honey Island and Ivanhoe. Crews are working to restore outages in the area where it is safe to do so.

The storm is expected to continue on a northwest track overnight and into the morning hours.
