Despite recent beneficial rainfall, the District remains under a Phase II Water Shortage Order, which includes limits on landscape irrigation. It is currently allowed one day per week, if needed. You can find your property's schedule here:

While we are thankful for the rain we received in May, we still need a lot more to eliminate our deficit and bring us out of our current drought. We ask everyone to continue to implement water conservation measures.

Hurricane season begins on Monday! While a below average season is predicted, we know the impact that just one hurricane can have on our region. Now is the time to make sure you're prepared before a hurricane threatens!

Florida Forest Service fire crews continue to work on the South Canal Fire in Lafayette County. The District’s Mallory Swamp tract is open; however, work related to the South Canal Fire and an active timber harvest is ongoing. This means South Canal Road is still closed and visitors to the tract are encouraged to use caution when traveling.

ATV access remains closed at this time.

We've been asking for it and, thankfully, we've seen an uptick in rainfall this month. Since May 1, the District has averaged an estimated 3.99 inches of rain, which is already higher than the long-term average for the month. Some areas have received significantly more - O'Leno State Park in Columbia County has received 6.46 inches of rain, and Hopewell Tower in Madison has received 6.72 inches of rain. And there's the potential for more on the way this week.

This does not, of course, mean the drought has gone away. To alleviate the 20-inch rainfall deficit, we're going to need quite a bit more rain, so we still need to be mindful of our water use and continue implementing water conservation measures.

But this is a good start!
