The curb appeal at the home of Donald "Rollie" Thompson and Brenda Farnham on 9th Street gives a cozy, eclectic vibe that reminds me of something straight out of a Country Living magazine. Their collection of vintage and primitive pieces are beautifully displayed among the mix of perennials and annuals in various gardens and planters. Many of the plants are potted in vessels that have been collected over the years. Brenda says she calls it " design on a dime", noting that you don't have to spend a lot of money to take care of your property. They re-purpose many items to be used in their gardens and patio such as the wash tub given to them by their friend, Ed. They gave the tub's stand a fresh coat of paint and now it looks great as a planter on the patio! Also, rather than throw something away, they take the time to repair it as can be seen with the sign that Brenda was working on, which serves as a shelf above their grilling area. Brenda is a skilled painter and has a real talent for combining her painting and re-purposing skills to create these intriguing gardens and cozy spaces for enjoying the outdoors. The couple says with our long winters, they want to be outside during the warm seasons as much as possible. They have a fire pit which allows them to enjoy their time outdoors even on chilly evenings. The soft, warm lights strung around the pavilion, patio and porch give an elegant glow that looks absolutely stunning at night. Thank you, Brenda and Rollie for doing all you do to create such a lovely and creative curb appeal that contributes to the beauty of our little village!!
