Last week, the UAMS Department of Public Safety including Emergency Management, the Technical Security team, National Weather Service team, Distribution Center Department, and Police Department conducted a collaborative tabletop exercise focused on inclement weather preparedness and continuity operations.

The exercise created great dialogue, collaboration, and planning as teams discussed backup operational protocols and emergency coordination efforts during severe weather events. Scenarios included the impact of a tornado striking operations, potential dispatch relocation plans, and how long the Distribution Center could continue operations during an emergency event.

Great teamwork across all departments involved!

It’s National Police Week, and what a great time to not only celebrate our officers, but also continue training and strengthening our preparedness efforts to better serve and protect our campus community.

Even during Police Week, the UAMS Department of Public Safety remains committed to professional development, teamwork, and public safety excellence.

Thank you to all of our officers and public safety professionals for your dedication, sacrifice, and service each and every day. πŸ’™πŸš”

Special thanks to Dr. Jerrilyn Jones, Dr. Brandon Morshedi, Dr. Johnathan Martindale, Wright Cookus, and all partners involved for their leadership and collaboration.

Ty Haynie, UAMS Emergency Preparedness Director, addressed about fifty Little Rock Kappa League students at the Little Rock Diamond Center by Rotary Club invitation.

Ty discussed the UAMS Department of Public Safety, emphasizing preparedness and pathways for young people to pursue careers in emergency management and other areas within Public Safety. He highlighted his personal career journey and the daily impact of Public Safety programs on the community.

The students were very engaged, and there was a strong interest in learning more about careers in Public Safety.

As a next step, our DPS team will establish a program to identify interested students and coordinate with our UAMS Public Safety professionals to organize job shadowing opportunities.

This event effectively promoted youth engagement and careers in public safety.
