The Arkansas Rice Research and Promotion Board consists of 9 rice farmers, appointed by the governor, who administer the rice checkoff in Arkansas. Farmers pay an assessment rate of 1.35 cents per bushel of rice grown, and that money is dedicated to research efforts. The first purchaser of the rice pays an equal assessment of 1.35 cents per bushel, and that is dedicated to promotion and market dev

elopment. Research projects are conducted by the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture. The board has consistently selected USA Rice Council to conduct the promotion and market development efforts.

The Arkansas Rice Research and Promotion Board is accepting grant proposals for rice research and promotion until January 9, 2025. The board has set a funding goal of $2.7 million for research proposals, with the funding amount for promotional activities to be determined at the February meeting.
