As Arkansas Farmers Market Week comes to a close, we encourage Arkansans to get out and visit a farmers market near them this weekend. Producers across the state work hard to bring Arkansas Grown and Arkansas Made products to their communities, and farmers markets are one of the best places to experience that dedication firsthand. Shop local and support Arkansas Grown this weekend!

Wildfire prevention, detection, and suppression are essential functions for our Forestry Division team, and their professionalism and dedication are evident in every response. During last year’s historically significant wildfire season, our forest rangers and wildland firefighters suppressed more than 1,250 wildfires across 27,960 acres. Their work helps protect Arkansas’ forests, communities, and natural resources.

We were proud to visit the Bentonville Wednesday Farmers Market today to present Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ Arkansas Farmers Market Week proclamation. The Downtown Bentonville Incorporated Farmers Market was recently ranked by USA Today as one of the top markets in the country, growing from $280,000 in annual sales in 2011 to more than $3 million today. We were glad to see the success of the market firsthand and visit with some of their outstanding vendors!

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has confirmed the detection of New World Screwworm (NWS) in two calves in Zavala County, Texas. While there are no detections in Arkansas at this time, livestock and animal owners should stay alert and take preventative action. Movement of animals into Arkansas from the affected area in Texas will be restricted according to established federal NWS response guidance and a state entry permit will also be required for those animals.
