Arkansas State Crime Laboratory team members Lillian Howerton (Physical Evidence), Harrison Dale (Latent Prints), and Sierra Strickland (Fi****ms) presented at the MASH program in Pine Bluff on Wednesday. They introduced students to several career paths within forensic science, including serology, latent prints, and fi****ms, and explained how each discipline contributes uniquely and collaboratively to forensic science casework.

The team also discussed educational requirements and the various routes to a career at the Crime Lab, emphasizing the meaningful impact our work has on Arkansans and our role within the court system. They led a hands-on activity, giving students a chance to experience what we do every day, followed by time for questions and conversation.

The latest stop on the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory’s (ASCL) educational tour around the state occurred today in Fayetteville, with a great turnout by members of the area’s law enforcement community!

The purpose of each “Scene to Lab: Practical Crime Lab Guidance for Law Enforcement” session is to enhance the partnership between the ASCL and the law enforcement community. Featuring a representative leader from each ASCL section, along with members of the leadership team, attendees are given a brief lab overview, section-specific guidance, information on evidence packaging and submission requirements, as well as an update on emerging technologies, and an extended Q&A session.

The Barrett Strategic Leadership Group (BSLG) is offering a CLEST-certified leadership and conflict resolution class for law enforcement officers and other professionals. This training builds essential skills in decision-making, communication, team building, accountability, and ethical leadership, while teaching effective conflict resolution strategies to manage disputes, de-escalate tense situations, and foster stronger teams.

We’re excited to announce that the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory team was recently recognized as a recipient of the prestigious Foresight Maximus Award during the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD) Annual Symposium in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

This international recognition is reserved for top-performing forensic laboratories and ASCL was one of only 15 laboratories out of 184 participating laboratories worldwide receiving the award for the 2024–2025 reporting year!

The Foresight Maximus Award reflects excellence in operational performance, financial stewardship, and scientific quality, recognizing laboratories that are setting the standard for exceptional forensic science.

This achievement is a direct reflection of the dedication, expertise, and commitment the ASCL team brings every day in service to the people of Arkansas.

We congratulate ASCL on being recognized among an elite group of forensic laboratories across the globe!

Please join us in congratulating Jada Price, Forensic Evidence Technician in Lowell, for being recognized this week as a recipient of the Arkansas State Police 2025 Commendation Award at the Annual Awards Ceremony and Luncheon of the Arkansas State Police, made possible by the generous contributions of the Arkansas State Police Foundation!

Prior to joining our Crime Lab team, Jada served as a Telecom Specialist with the Arkansas State Police. Jada and her team were recognized for their actions in support of the Devil’s Den State Park homicide response and investigation.

The Arkansas State Crime Laboratory recently hosted another successful training opportunity in Hope, continuing our commitment to strengthening communication and collaboration with law enforcement agencies across Arkansas.

While in the area, our team also had the opportunity to visit with the dedicated laboratory technicians at the ASCL Hope location and recognize the important work they perform in support of investigations and public safety efforts throughout the region.
