Friday in The Flock
A message from your mayor 9/11/2026. Friday in the Flock – 9/11/2026
Never Forget...
Good afternoon, everyone. I hope you have had a wonderful week and have many blessings to look forward to in the weekend ahead.
It has been another fairly busy week here, despite being a shortened one. We conducted our monthly Community Engagement Meeting on Wednesday and had some great discussions. Our Street Department is one step closer to moving into the new Maintenance Building, and carpet was being laid in City Hall this week. “The grind” never seems to end.
And as I write this message, I cannot help but think about this day 25 years ago, when one of the worst tragedies in American history took place.
Back then, I worked for a New York City-based company and continue to have good friends who live there. I remember an early-morning phone call from one of my co-workers, who informed me that a small plane had struck one of the towers. As everything began to unfold and phone lines in New York City went down, I lost contact with them.
Like so many of us, I watched the tragedies of that day unfold on the news and prayed for humanity.
Here we are, 25 years later. It is hard to believe that a quarter-century has passed.
There are so many things that could be said about that day—how it impacted each of us then, and how it continues to impact us now.
Let us never forget the heroic sacrifice of the first responders, the innocent lives lost on those planes, in the towers and at the Pentagon, and the military men and women who rose above the tragedy to serve their fellow Americans and fellow mankind with honor and distinction.
As we wrap up our Friday, take a moment to reflect, even if only for a moment.
Remember those we lost. Remember those who served. Remember the courage, compassion and unity that emerged from one of our nation's darkest days.
Never Forget.
Have a blessed weekend, everyone.
