Sunday was a beautiful day in our Borough. For the first time since the Covid pandemic, we bought back the Sgt Matt Fenton 5k race/walk. This year commemorates 20 years since our hometown hero sacrificed his life for his country while serving in Iraq.

More than 400 participants gathered to honor Matt’s sacrifice and all those who lost their lives in service to America during this significant 250th Anniversary year.

Congratulations to Borough resident, Yvonne Losino, whose vision, planning, and dedication turned the race into a reality this year. To all the volunteers and sponsors—thank you!

A special acknowledgment goes to our OEM team, as well as our Police and Fire Departments and EMS teams, who contributed to making the event safe and successful. Additionally, we extend our gratitude to the Little Ferry DPW, Property Maintenance Inspector Scott Karavitis, Borough Administrator Lisette Duffy, and Council President Ronald Anzalone for ensuring that all road projects were completed on time and that our Borough looked its absolute best this weekend—we appreciate you! Once again, the “small town with the big heart” united to honor Matt Fenton and all those who served! Let’s do it again next year!

*Shout-out to Mark Horst and other residents who provided pictures of the Run.

Little Ferry:
There are down wires after this evening’s storm. Be cautious and stay alert to your surroundings.
Downed wires should always be considered “live.” Stay at least 30 feet away from downed wires, and don’t go near the pole or anything touching the line.

Electric current passes easily through water, so stay away from downed electrical wires. Don't drive over – and don't stand near near them

Downed wires can potentially be hidden in standing water. If you encounter large pools of standing water, stop, back up and choose another path.

Report an outage and receive status updates by texting OUT to 4PSEG (47734).

To report an outage or down wires by phone, call PSE&G at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734) or use the web chat feature at pseg.com/myaccount.

Little Ferry Residents

U.S. Marine Sgt. Matthew J. Fenton was a Little Ferry resident who remains a symbol of hope and valor within the community.

Our Hometown Hero gave his life for our Nation twenty years ago. The 5K Run/Walk is a memorial Run decorated with flags, ribbons and fire trucks along the route.

On Sunday, June 7th, starting at 8 AM, the Matt Fenton 5K run/walk will take place, resulting in temporary street closures. The race will begin and end on Main Street in front of 95 Main, which will be closed from Frederick Street to Bergen Turnpike for the duration of the event.

The route will cover several streets, including Main, Marshall, Kavrik, Liberty, Washington, Hester, Prospect, Eckel, Bertolotto, Monroe, the soccer field lot, Mehrhof, McCabe, and North Washington, before returning to Main.

Expect delays as streets will reopen once the last participant has passed. If you reside along the race route and need to leave during the event, we recommend parking your vehicle on an unaffected street, as overnight parking will be suspended. Hey Little Ferry!

Traffic detours and unexpected road closures are incredibly frustrating, but relief is finally here after three long years.

🚧 Final Stretch on Eckel & Liberty!
Navigating the constant road closures and shifting detours on Eckel Road, Liberty Street, and our surrounding neighborhood streets has tested everyone's patience. Fortunately, this state-funded flood control project is almost done.
Please check the attached traffic alert to plan your commute and view the final detour routes as crews finish paving.
Thank you for hanging tough—normal traffic flow is just around the corner!

NOTICE PROVIDED BY Rebuild By Design and Union Paving:

Please be advised that milling and paving activities are scheduled to begin on or about June 3, weather permitting. Work will take place in the following locations:

Wednesday, June 3 through Friday, June 5:
• PARTIAL CLOSURE ALONG ECKEL ROAD FROM CHAPMAN DRIVE TO LIBERTY STREET FOR MILLING AND PAVING

Thursday, June 4 – FULL CLOSURE ON LIBERTY STREET BETWEEN REDNECK AVE AND JOSEPH ST
• Milling and paving along the Liberty Bell Apartment’s Driveway and Liberty Street scheduled between 7am and 4pm - During this time, access to the complex will only be available via Moonachie Road

Work hours: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily.
During this time, residents may park on nearby side streets such as Monroe, Prospect, Columbus, and Bertolotto to avoid being blocked in during milling and paving activities. Please note, residents will NOT be ticketed for parking due to this work.

Additional Advisories:
• Residents on Eckel or any of the dead ends west of Eckel should be aware that access may be sporadically blocked during milling and paving operations. To avoid being temporarily blocked in, we recommend parking on Prospect, Columbus, Monroe, or Bertolotto east of Eckel prior to 7am on work days.

• Residents of Chapman Drive and Lamker Court may also experience sporadically blocked access while milling and paving is being done between Chapman Drive and Bertolotto Street.

DETOUR MAP FOR ROAD CLOSURE: Please review the map for detours during the road closure.

Transit Impacts:
The NJ Transit bus stops on Liberty Street between Joseph Street and Redneck Avenue will be temporarily closed during the Liberty Street closure on June 4th. Please refer to NJ Transit advisories for temporary bus routes.

General Advisories:
• Work will require temporary lane and access restrictions
• No parking may be permitted in active work areas during operations
• Access to properties may be intermittently limited as paving progresses
