Today at Markets and Music on the Mississippi in Little Falls. Guante will be on stage from 5:30 to 6:15 sponsored by The Little Falls Carnegie Library. Don't miss this very special performance.
Kyle - Guante - is a Minneapolis-based poet, activist and educator who has performed in settings as diverse as music festivals, colleges, universities, conferences and even the United Nations. He’s been part of two National Poetry Slam championship teams, given a TEDx Talk, and is a published author.
He is here today to introduce us to the world of spoken word poetry.
For those who are new to the genre, "spoken-word" is an umbrella term for performance poetry—it incorporates elements of poetry, theater, storytelling and more. Spoken word poets use their bodies, voices, and movements to bring poetry to life, creating a powerful and emotional experience for the audience.
What makes Guante special is the way he grounds his hip-hop style performances with his knowledge of traditional poetic devices, and most importantly, how he invites us to share in his - often frustrated - world view without making us feel awash in someone else's anger. He simply asks the human in us to experience other lives and viewpoints through the lens of his words.
