At the June 10 City Council meeting, Mayor Fischer and the City Council presented two Little Canada Lifesaving Awards and one Recognition of Response Award.
On May 16, around 6:59 PM at Pioneer Park, two individuals provided life-saving efforts, saving a 4-year-old from drowning. Firefighter Bradley Sell, a member of our own Little Canada Fire Department, was walking his dog in Pioneer Park and was in the right place at the right time. He answered the call as an emergency responder, assisting with performing high-quality lifesaving CPR to a 4-year-old who was rescued by another unknown individual. After Firefighter Sell assisted with CPR, the child began breathing and regained a pulse. Firefighter Sell was honored with a Little Canada Lifesaving Award.
The second individual who provided CPR is an unidentified male whose efforts will not go unnoticed. Despite attempts, we were unable to identify the individual who assisted in rescuing the child from the water and began CPR. While we do not know this individual's name, he was honored with a Little Canada Lifesaving Award. This plaque will hang in City Hall as a thank you for his life-saving efforts. If this individual comes forward or is identified, we will, of course, formally recognize them.
Finally, the Council presented our Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office Deputies with a Little Canada Recognition of Response Award, accepted by Sergeant Joe Stradinger. Within five minutes of the call being dispatched, nine deputies arrived at Pioneer Park to assist with the incident, including locating the family.
Thank you to all for their professional and swift response. The family was in attendance and had an opportunity to personally thank our responders.
