Taking flight: more birds! Thanks Birds Georgia and partners!!

After months of hands-on restoration work, Birds Georgia has revitalized 19 acres of grassland at the historic Wilburn Farm in the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve.

With support from the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation’s Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration Program, staff and volunteers removed invasive plants, planted more than 1,000 native species, and are already seeing birds like Eastern Meadowlarks and Savannah Sparrows return to the landscape.

MLK action alert!

Join us in service for MLK Day, Saturday January 17th at Wilburn Farm 9a-12p. We’ll be removing invasive plants and sharing the progress of our medow restoration in partnership with Birds Georgia. Registration and location details below.

Join us for some MLK Days of Service in and around the NHA in a week and a half!

• Saturday, Jan 17, 9am-12pm: Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve Day of Service (at Wilburn Farm) - Help Birds Georgia, The Georgia Conservancy and DAMNP Rangers restore the meadows by removing invasive plants.

• Monday, Jan 19, 10am-12pm: Panola Mountain Day of Service at Alexander Lakes - Give the park some TLC by cleaning trash and beautifying Alexander Lakes at Panola Mountain State Park.

• Monday, Jan 19, 1pm-4pm: E.M.B.A.R.C. Day of Service: Help preserve the beauty of the forest at the E M B A R C Community Youth Farm by removing invasive plants which will be used to build a wattle around the outdoor classroom.

For World Ranger Day, we celebrate the dedication, passion, and protection provided by Rangers around the globe—and right here at Arabia Mountain.

Arabia has a powerful legacy of Rangers and Naturalists whose work has shaped this landscape and community into what it is today. From leading hikes and educational programs, to restoring habitats and responding to emergencies, Rangers do more than protect the land—they connect people to it.

To every Arabia Ranger—past and present—thank you for showing up, caring deeply, and helping others see the beauty, resilience, and wonder of this special place.

Your legacy is written into every trail cleared, every child inspired, and every wildflower still growing in peace.

A huge thank you to the volunteers from who joined us last week for a day of impactful conservation work at Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve.

🌱 Along Laurel Creek Cascade, teams worked on habitat restoration within the sensitive floodplain and riparian corridor—helping to protect native plant communities and improve water quality.

🚮 At Polebridge Creek, volunteers tackled years of illegal dumping and litter accumulation, removing:
• 22 tires – including 6 large tractor tires (yes, it took two people per tire!)
• 45 bags of trash
• Hundreds of pounds of debris

Your hard work is helping restore the health of our creeks, support wildlife, and create a safer, cleaner space for the community.

Calling All Nature Stewards! We invite you to a morning of healing, for the land and for ourselves.
Next Tuesday (April 15) at 10am, join our River Cleanse Cleanse Cleanup & Meditation at Polebridge Creek! This creek is one of Arabia Mountain’s lesser-known but deeply important waterways. In partnership with , we’ll begin with trash cleanup along the buffer of Polebridge Creek, and then gather at the cascades for a meditation and healing session.

Tools and gear provided. We ask that you wear closed-toed shoes and pants for the morning trash cleanup, but you may change into alternative attire for the meditation session at the cascades.

Registration is preferred so that we can ensure we have enough equipment for everyone. We’ll provide the tools and bags.

Keep Your Pup on a Leash: Protect Arabia Mountain 🐕🌿

We love seeing visitors enjoying Arabia Mountain with their four-legged friends, but keeping dogs on a leash isn’t just a rule—it’s a way to protect both the environment and your pet.

🐾 Why leashes matter:
✔️ Protects Wildlife: Off-leash dogs can disturb or harm native wildlife, especially ground-nesting birds, small mammals, and amphibians.
✔️ Preserves Fragile Ecosystems: The unique plant life here, including rare mosses and lichens, can be damaged by dogs running off-trail.
✔️ Ensures Safety: Leashes prevent unexpected encounters with wildlife, steep terrain, or other hikers who may be uncomfortable around dogs.
✔️ It’s the Law! At Arabia Mountain, all dogs must remain on a leash per County Code 5-4.

Let’s work together to protect this special place for everyone—two-legged and four-legged adventurers alike! 🥾🐶
