Last nights evening kayak paddle held a special treat. Getting to see the Osprey was a wonderful experience for our kayakers to get to see the Osprey.

These structures are made by the Organ Pipe Mud Dauber. This new Organ Pipe Mud Dauber nest has various shades in the mud indicating the mud was collected in different locations.

Each of these mud tubes containes multiple cells. Inside of each cell is a wasp egg and a paralyzed spider, which will serve as a first meal for this wasp species larva when it hatches.

The adult of these species is a shiny balck color, and farily docile in temperment. Organ Pipe Mud Daubers are a favorite food for the Tufted TitMouse.

The Green Heron is a regular at Sweetwater Creek State Park this time of year.

This is a species of bird that has been documented using tools. The Green Heron has been observed using twigs, feathers, and insects as fishing lures to entice the small fish that their diet consists of.

This beautiful bird was spotted on our Early Bird Kayak Paddle.
Our September dates are

FRIDAY, SEPT: 4th, 11th ,12th
and
SUNDAY, SEPT: 6th, 13th

Suitable for ages 10+ all minors must have an adult present. Please call 770-732-2613 to register. $35 per person. All registrations must be made by 5 pm the day prior.

Hi Folks,

Your State Parks Day is rapidly approaching!
September 26 starting at 10 am

With Friends of Sweetwater Creek State Park We'll be offering multiple vounteer oppertunities with varying difficulty.

Here are the teams:
Reservoir Team
Team Leader - Ranger Fox
5 to 8 volunteers on the lake cleaning up trash in the reservoir. Life vests are required to be worn at all times. Pre-registration is required for this team to ensure the right number of kayaks are available. You may bring your own kayak.
Fisherman Trails Team
Team Leader - Ranger Rohm
5 - 10 volunteers following fishermen made trails around the reservoir and through the park. These will be hard and steep cowboy trails, and you may be fighting through vegetation, however there will likely be lots of trash to collect.
Invasive Plants Team
Team Leader - Greg K
5 - 10 volunteers working on invasive species removal with a special focus on Privet and Stilt Grass on Purple and/or White trails. We will provide 5-gallon buckets to use as a seat, or you can bring your own. The majority of the time will be spent bent over close to the ground using your hands and possibly some hand clippers to locate and remove the invasive plants we are targeting.
Bait Shop Team
Team Leader - TBD
5 - 10 volunteers at the bait shop to pick up litter. This will be an easy walk around the parking lot and shore.
Red & Purple Trails Team
Team Leader - TBD
5 - 10 volunteers walking the Red and Purple trails picking up trash. Easy to Moderate hike to and along the creek. There will be lots of trash in this area.

Hey Folks

We're continuing to run our Early Bird Kayak paddles in September thanks to consistent interest.

Our Early Bird kayak paddles run from 7am to 9 am preregistration for each program closes at 5pm the day prior.

$35 per person suitable for ages 10+ all minors must have an adult accompanying. Call 770-732-2613 to register beteen the hours of 9 am and 5 pm

Upcoming Dates:
FRIDAY, SEPT: 4th, 11th ,12th
SUNDAY, SEPT: 6th, 13th

On these same dates we'll also be having our Flora and Fauna Ecology Paddle from 3:30 pm - 5 pm and our Evening Kayak Paddle from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Both of these are $35 per person suitbale for ages 10+ all minors must have a legal adult present. Call 770-732-2613 to register between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm.

We're excited for Girl Scouts Love State Parks Day!

We have three exciting option this year.

On Saturday September 12th at 3 pm we have candle making suitable for all ages and skill levels $5 per person.

On Sunday September 13th at 7 am we have our Early Bird Kayak Paddle suitable for ages 10+ spaces are limited. Please call 770-732-2613 for registration. $35 per person

On Sunday September 13th at 1 pm we have a Bio-Blitz hike at $5 per person, we'll teach folks basic plant identification and try to identify as many plants as possible on this 1.5 mile hike. Suitable for all ages. not stroller friendly.
