"Having signs in Spanish at the food shelf has made shopping so much easier and less stressful for me. Thank you for making this possible." That's a Sibley County Food Shelf customer, after Meeker McLeod Sibley Community Health Services and Sibley County FoodShare reworked the space with Spanish signage, translated recipes, and diabetes resources moved up front.

Hispanic residents in our area report diabetes at 26%, more than double the state rate. Small changes at a food shelf are part of how we close that gap.

Minnesota's Department of Health just featured this work as a statewide success story. Full story here: https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/cardiovascular/stateplan/stories/mms.html

It’s , and this year’s theme is “Work. Pump. Advance. Empowering the modern parent.” 🤱 At WIC, we support working parents by providing breast pumps, peer support and lactation experts, nutritious food, and personalized food packages to support your breastfeeding goals.

We believe breastfeeding parents should be able to feed their babies or toddlers (or pump/hand express milk!) at work, school, and in public with respect and support. Learn more about your breastfeeding rights: https://signupwic.com/resources/know-your-rights-breastfeeding

The health benefits of breastfeeding are well-researched for baby and parent! 🤱

Data from the USDA show that breastfeeding support efforts helped increase the number of WIC families who chose to start breastfeeding to 70% in 2022. While there’s still work to do, let’s celebrate the wins and strive for even stronger breastfeeding support this and beyond! 💖

WIC is here to support your family from the moment you know you’re pregnant, up to your child’s fifth birthday! Read more: https://www.cbpp.org/blog/growing-share-of-infants-participating-in-wic-are-breastfed

Did you know? 🤔Water is one of the most important nutrients for your body! 💧
Water makes up about 60% of the body and is needed for every single organ to function properly. Water also helps prevent dehydration and regulates your body temperature, which is so important during the hot summer months! ☀️Staying hydrated is especially important for little ones and those who are breastfeeding!

Every August, the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee hosts to encourage families, communities, and organizations to come together for action and conversations about how we can build a stronger support network for breastfeeding parents! 💖

This year’s theme is RISE, which stands for: Resilience, Interdependence, Self-determination, and Empowerment! 🐦‍🔥This year's theme was created by USBC to capture the heart and strength of the field while also honoring the change and growth that are still needed to further equitable access to breastfeeding support for all families.

Did you know?
In Minnesota, you have to be 21 to legally use non-medical cannabis. You also can't give it to anyone under 21. The age limit exists for good reason; using cannabis too young can:
• damage memory
• hurt learning
• increase the risk of mental health problems.

Wait until 21 to protect developing brains.
