The 911 Emergency center became operational in October 1996. Almost 30 years later we still hear of people struggling to find numbers in phone books for the fire department, ambulance, or police department. Please, if you have an emergency and need one of these services just dial 911.

As far as us here at LFD, we are often out of the station on other calls, trainings, inspections, public relations and education, or other duties. If you call the station number in an emergency, no one will be here to answer. The consoles at 911 are staffed 24/7.

The Litchfield FD / MABAS 56 DiveTeam was involved in bringing this young man home to his family. A lot of professionals came together under brutal conditions to complete our mission.

This was a tremendous class and we look forward to having Jeff back in the future!

I’d like to thank the Litchfield Fire Department for inviting me to present a full day, blended single family and multi-family Building Comprehension class on Saturday. We also had a member from nearby Mount Olive FPD attend.
We had a great day of training and went through a lot of visual exterior building pattern recognition, situational and spatial awareness, common floor plans, identifying stairwell types and locations, a number of other building construction topics including a focus on balloon frame structures and rain roofs. We examined quite a few different single family home types and multi-family building types including some the most common houses, apartment buildings and townhouses found in the area. All throughout the class we discussed a lot regarding size up and making specific tactical decisions such as identifying correct ground ladder placement, prioritizing search areas, attack line lead outs, ventilation, etc.
Thanks to Captain David Rogers for reaching out and working with me to put the class together. I also want to thank Chief Adam Pennock and all of the FD members that came in for the class and for giving me the privilege of contributing this to your training program. Stay safe!

🎄❤️ Giving Back This Holiday Season ❤️🎄

The Litchfield Professional Firefighters Local 3252 were proud to partner with Operation ELF this holiday season to help support families in need right here in our community. Through this partnership, Local 3252 donated $1,000 and 35 hams to help ensure families could enjoy a warm and meaningful Christmas dinner.

Operation ELF, formed in 2019 and carrying on a tradition that has existed under various names for over 50 years, continues to make a powerful impact each year. In 2025 alone, the organization supported 35 families and 78 children, ranging from newborns to 12 years old. Thanks to generous community support, donations are collected through barrels placed at local businesses throughout town.
We are grateful to Operation ELF, our local businesses, and everyone who donates to help make the holidays brighter for so many.

This is what community is all about. 🎁🚒💙

October 7, 1948 - LODD
Chief Lyle Dempsey Guy, 48
Litchfield Fire Department. Litchfield, IL
Chief Guy was killed in the line of duty while responding to a house fire. Chief Guy and the other firefighters had initially been unable to enter the house due to the strength of the fire, but Chief Guy and another firefighter entered the house once the flames were under control. In pulling down some burning drapes, Chief Guy created a small flash fire and unexpectedly inhaled some heated gases. Chief Guy was immediately helped out of the house, but he collapsed on the street and was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he died two hours later. Chief Guy had been Chief for only five months, having been appointed to the position on May 7, 1948.

The kids are back to school! This means increased foot, bus, and automobile traffic in certain areas in the morning and afternoon. Please take it slow, pay extra attention, and possibly even avoid school zones if possible.

Have a great school year!

There are a lot of people taking advantage of the great weather and conducting controlled burns. Please used extreme caution. With the dry fuel and windy conditions, many controlled burns have became uncontrolled and loss of property has happened a lot this week.
Additionally, if you’re planning of conducting a controlled burn, please give Montgomery County Dispatch a call on the non emergency line 532-9564, and advise them of the location so they don’t needlessly dispatch resources that are already busy and stretches thin.

We’ve responded to a few calls of broken sprinkler pipes recently. These incidents have the potential to cause significant damage. These are great tips posted by Greenville Fire Department!

🔴Businesses with Fire Protection Systems🔴

With the warmer temperatures predicted to come back this week, we will begin to see the effects of frozen fire sprinkler pipes thawing out.

▪️Make sure the Fire Department has access to Sprinkler Systems and Sprinkler Rooms. This is especially true on the off-shifts when Maintenance personnel might not be on site.

▪️Have Keys for doors, valve chains, and padlocks readily available. This will prevent delays in getting Systems shut down...and keep us from having to force open a door.

▪️Have an updated list of personnel to notify posted near the system.

▪️ Have a plan for dealing with water damage (i.e. ServPro or other Emergency Dewatering Company)

Remember, if sprinklers are "Out of Service" on occupied buildings, a Fire Watch must be posted.
