An important PSA regarding political sign placement. Both Mayor Pecak and I are committed as candidates for reelection for responsible sign placement on private property. Sadly our opponent are, not so much, and choose to place signs over the DuPage River crossing at Maple and in other desperate places in the public r.o.w.
As the Consolidated Election approaches on April 1, 2025, the Village would like to remind the public that political campaign signs are not allowed in public areas. Most commonly, signs are placed incorrectly within the right-of-way (ROW) which is prohibited per the Village Sign Code. The ROW typically includes the sidewalk and the area between the sidewalk and the roadway. Signs placed in the ROW that are deemed to be a traffic hazard including impeding the line-of-sight are subject to removal, as provided in the Village Code.
Please note that the Village cannot regulate the content of political signs on private property. There are however elements of signage on private property that can be regulated such as the size, lighting, and other specifications which are outlined within the Village Code.
