Championing Prevention in Ohio! 🌟

Last week, our Director of Prevention and Outreach, Lynsi Beagle, participated as a panelist at the Ohio Prevention Professionals Association (OPPA) Conference in the session, "Engaging Your ADAMHS/MHRS Board to Champion Prevention." πŸŽ€πŸ—£

The session centered on the evolving partnership between local Boards and community providers. Alongside Cara Brown (Butler County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery Services Board) and Aimee Wade (County of Summit ADM Board), Lynsi addressed moderated questions and engaged in an open Q&A with attendees. The discussion focused on how ADAMHS/MHRS Boards can serve as strategic assets to help elevate and advance prevention goals within their communities.

Providing a platform for these conversations allows for a better understanding of how Boards and prevention professionals can work together more effectively, both here in Columbiana County and across the state. 🀝

Congratulations to Brittany Hill from the East Liverpool Fire Department and Amanda Noel and Amanda Hoon from the East Palestine Fire Department, who completed the first ever Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training for fire and EMS personnel in Columbiana County.

Sponsored locally by the Columbiana County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board with support from the National Alliance on Mental Illness, CIT is an international program that not only teaches de-escalation techniques for mental health and substance abuse crises, but also allows students to become familiar with Columbiana County’s resources to aid those in crisis.

The 20-hour training covered a number of topics including substance use disorder and mental illness, the impact of trauma, supporting veterans and active military, human trafficking, individuals with special needs, su***de prevention, legal issues, the effects of poverty, working with Children's Services, and crisis de-escalation.

Our first class was small but very engaged, and we are hopeful this training will continue to grow in the future!
