Another example of integrating a new pig into your group there is a hierarchy in the pig group new pigs must learn where they are in order of that hierarchy you must be prepared to intervene if necessary

100% agree. Adopt a forever pet. They are worth the commitment.

🚨 Loving your pig means not giving up on them. 🚨

Let’s talk about something uncomfortable…

At what point is it actually okay to surrender your pet pig?

Because right now in the U.S., we are facing a crisis.
There are thousands of pet pigs with nowhere to go.
Sanctuaries? Full. Every. Single. One.
Safe options? Almost nonexistent.

And yet… pigs keep being rehomed.

💔 Passed from home to home
💔 Posted on Facebook & Craigslist
💔 Ending up in situations far worse than where they started

Here’s the truth people don’t want to hear:
Pigs are not temporary.
They are not “until it gets hard.”
They are a 15-20+ year commitment.

So we want to ask you honestly:

👉 What do you believe is a valid reason to surrender a pet pig?

Is it:
• Financial hardship?
• Housing changes?
• Health issues?
• Behavior challenges?
• Realizing you weren’t prepared?

Or… should commitment mean figuring it out no matter what?

Because from where we stand in rescue:
There are very few true “happy endings” once a pig leaves their home.
And most of the time… they pay the price.

⚖️ This is a hard, nuanced conversation.
And yes, it should make people uncomfortable.

But pigs deserve more than convenience.
They deserve commitment.

Friday fun facts. 🐽 🐖 🐷 Copied and pasted .

Pebbles and Harold are both good house piggies. Both are fixed and close to the same age. It’s been a couple weeks and they are still getting used to eachother. They currently stay is separate rooms and only cross paths when going in and out of the doors.
This is usually pretty essential when introducing new comers.

🐽 Did you know that when pigs meet new pigs that they’ll usually fight to establish dominance?
🐽 pigs naturally form, a social hierarchy, and when new pigs are introduced, they need to establish their position within the hierarchy.
🐽 the worst fights usually happen when pigs are completely unfamiliar with one another.
🐽 introducing pigs in a safe careful manner makes all of the difference.

🐖 The main difference between farm pigs and smaller breeds such as pot-bellied pigs is their size:
Farm pigs: Can weigh up to 1,000 pounds or more when fully grown. We dont have any farm pigs here but Harry’s a pretty big kunekune 🐖

🐽 Pot-bellied pigs: Usually weigh between 100 and 250 pounds when fully grown. They’re prone to becoming overweight and have to be monitored with food intake.
🐽Pot-bellied pigs are a domestic breed that originated in Vietnam, They are also known as miniature pot-bellied pigs and are the same species as pigs kept on farms.. 🐖
🐽Did you know that pigs are super smart? Their cognitive ability is very close to a three year old child. So having them is like having a child every day, Always. 😂
🐽Pigs are like potato chips, and you just can’t have one! 😆 they are also like chickens and seem to multiply. That’s called chicken math. 😂
🐽Pigs rank #4 in animal intelligence, behind chimpanzees, dolphins and elephants.🐷 🐘🐬 🙊
🐽Piglets learn their names by 2 to 3 weeks of age, and will come to you when called by their name 🐖
🐽Pigs like to snuggle and prefer to sleep nose to nose. 🐽🐽Pigs, even dream just like us. 💤 ☁️
🐽Pigs, communicate, and can vocalize over 20 unique different sounds 📞
🐽Pigs love and have strong emotions just like us. ❤️ Pigs, feel pain, they feel fear, frustration, anxiety, sorrow and everything just like us. They create bonds with each other and humans and even mourn. 😔
🐽Pigs enjoy singing and music. 🎶
🐽Pigs don’t have sweat glands therefore no smell.
🐽Pigs are clean. They just like to play in the mud to cool off.
🐽Unfortunately most pigs are rehomed within their first year due to zoning and people either not knowing that they WILL get big or being lied to from breeders. 😔 So many pigs need homes. Alway adopt. ❤️❤️
Most Shelters are not equipped or knowledgeable for pigs and it is a very scary place for them. 😞

🐽Please look for a reputable pig/mini-pig rescue/sanctuary when rehoming your pet pig. Go visit the sanctuary beforehand to see how they care for the animals.

🐽Pigs are AMAZING! Facts! 💯
