Today at approximately 11:30 AM, we responded to a 20–30 acre stubble/grass fire near Beatrice. Thanks to the quick response of firefighters, the fire was contained before it could spread into additional standing crops.

Today, our area is under a Red Flag Warning, meaning warm temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds could cause any new fire to spread rapidly.

🚨 FIRE WEATHER WATCH & STRONG WINDS TUESDAY 🚨

The National Weather Service is forecasting hot, dry, and windy conditions across our area on Tuesday, June 16.

🌬️ Forecast:
β€’ Wind gusts: 40–50 MPH
β€’ Temperatures: 80s to low 90s
β€’ Relative humidity: 12–22%

These conditions mean any fire that starts in dry grass can spread rapidly and become difficult to control.

If you see smoke or a fire, call 911 immediately. Early reporting gives firefighters the best chance to stop a small fire before it becomes a major incident.

Our volunteers will be keeping a close eye on conditions. Help us keep Adams County safe by taking a few extra precautions tomorrow.

Over the last couple of months we have had 4 of our firefighters working on becoming nationally certified wildland firefighters also known as being red carded. This task consists of roughly 30 hours of classroom time, a hands on field day to demonstrate the ability to dig fire line, assemble hose lays, as well as reading your fuels, weather etc. you also must demonstrate the ability to deploy your fire shelter in the event of an emergency. The final step in getting certified is a physical fitness test the consists of walking 3 miles with a 45 lb. Pack in 45 minutes. All 4 of our firefighters took and passed their fitness test yesterday and with that have completed all courses and exams to be national certified wildland firefighter-2! Congratulations to the 4 of you and as always stay safe!
