๐Ÿš” North Carolinaโ€™s first responders deserve the ability to safely do the jobs they were sworn to do.

The North Carolina Fraternal Order of Police proudly supports Senate Bill 985 โ€” the HALO Law โ€” which provides a reasonable safety buffer to help protect first responders from intentional interference, threats, and harassment while they are actively serving our communities.

This legislation supports safety, accountability, and constitutional rights while helping officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and other first responders focus on protecting the public during dangerous and rapidly evolving situations.

Stand with those who stand for us. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ’™

The Gastonia Police Department, as a proud partner of the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, assisted in the search for and apprehension of a fugitive wanted in connection with the death of a Virginia deputy sheriff.

Gastonia Police officers joined federal, state, and local law enforcement partners in the search for Michael Puckett, who was wanted following the fatal shooting of Carroll County, Virginia Deputy Sheriff Logan Utt during a welfare check.

The intensive manhunt began Friday and continued through the weekend, involving numerous agencies across state lines. On Sunday evening, Officers and Deputies located and arrested Puckett in Surry County, North Carolina, without incident. Authorities reported that Puckett was armed with a handgun at the time of his arrest.

The Gastonia Police Department remains committed to supporting the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force and our law enforcement partners in the pursuit of violent offenders through collaboration, information sharing, and coordinated operations.

Operation Spring Cleaning is a great example of what can be accomplished when law enforcement agencies work together toward a common goal. We are incredibly proud of all the agencies involved and the hard work that went into this operation.

We are especially proud of Bill Beam and the members of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office who participated alongside local, state, and federal partners. These partnerships are critical in the fight against illegal narcotics and criminal activity. By combining resources, intelligence, and manpower, Law enforcement are able to make a greater impact and remove dangerous drugs from our streets.

The utilization of Task Force Officers working alongside federal partners is an essential component of modern law enforcement. These partnerships strengthen investigations, enhance information sharing, and provide agencies with additional tools and resources to target large-scale drug trafficking organizations that impact our local communities.

Operations like this send a clear message that law enforcement agencies are united in their commitment to holding drug offenders accountable and making our communities safer.
