Four years in a row. 🏆
Another proud moment for our community.

Last night, the Arlington Heights School District 25 Board of Education once again received the Governance Recognition Award from the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) at the North Cook Division Spring Meeting.

Deeply proud to serve alongside such a thoughtful and dedicated team. This recognition reflects more than an award. It reflects a shared commitment to learning, strong governance, and being student-centered.

Serving our district community and our students remains at the heart of this work.

A big thank you to District 64 Park Ridge-Niles for graciously hosting area school boards for the meeting.

The Hearts of Gold event, hosted by the Arlington Heights Special Events Commission and chaired by our very own Brad Katz of Arlington Heights School District 25 was exactly that - truly special. Wonderful to be there with our D25 Team to celebrate all the amazing honorees.

A full room. Full hearts. Moving words from inspiring members of our community.

It was especially wonderful to cheer on our own D25 stars:
✨ Lisa Smorczewski, teacher at Westgate Elementary
✨ Sandra Vliet, D25 guest teacher, and volunteer master gardener at Thomas Middle School

Additionally, as an Advisory Board Member of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library Foundation, it was also meaningful for me to celebrate another great leader and human, Mike Driskell, Executive Director of our 5-star Arlington Heights Memorial Library.

Grateful to live and serve in a community that recognizes quiet leadership, sustained service, and hearts that give back. Truly inspiring.

On behalf of our dedicated Arlington Heights School District 25, I’m honored to have been invited by the Illinois Association of School Boards to present alongside Dr. Brian Kaye and Kevin Michael at the Illinois Joint Annual Conference this week!

Governance Greatness: Building Trust, Shaping Culture is a topic close to my heart. How a board shows up, how we communicate, build trust, and live our values in real time, is what truly shapes a district’s culture. It’s the difference between thinking culture and doing culture.

We are looking forward to connecting with board members and administrators from across Illinois. If you’re curious about how school boards can operationalize culture, I hope you’ll join us as we share practical ways to strengthen alignment, trust, and the conditions for students and staff to thrive.

Today is School Board Members Day in Illinois, and this photo from the night I was first sworn in back in April 2017 brought back so much gratitude. I had no idea then how profoundly this role would shape me.

Serving this incredible community for the past eight years (and counting) has truly filled my heart. Watching our students learn, smile, and thrive, surrounded by teachers, staff, and leaders who show up every day with intention, care, and commitment, has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.

I’m deeply inspired by the school board members I’ve served alongside, past and present. I am also grateful for my community of school board colleagues and friends from near and far. Here in Arlington Heights, across Illinois, and around the country, school boards have the power to strengthen communities in ways that matter for children, for families, and for the future.

Being a school board member has been one of my life’s greatest honors. And that’s because of the warmth, trust, and unwavering support of the Arlington Heights community. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.

The power of collaboration and advocacy is what moves policy from intention to impact.

This week’s Annual ED-RED meeting brought together school board members, district administrators, and state legislators for timely conversations about the needs of our students and communities.

Grateful to the ED-RED team for creating space to align advocacy efforts, elevate on-the-ground realities, and keep every student’s needs at the center of legislative decision-making. Thank you to our legislators for their continued partnership and commitment to public education.

When we collaborate across roles and levels of government, we create the conditions for stronger schools.

Who Is Anisha?

Anisha Ismail Patel has served on the District 25 Board of Education for 4 years. She was elected to the school board with the highest vote count in 2017. During this unprecedented pandemic when students across the nation and in our community face challenges, Anisha has decided to re-run for the April 6, 2021 consolidated election to once again serve her community on the school board.

In the past four years Anisha has been humbled to serve the Arlington Heights District 25 community: She has stayed connected routinely attending school and community events, she has been nominated to serve as a Director at Large for the Illinois Association of School Board-North Cook Division, and serves as the Board liaison to ED RED, a legislative advocacy organization, where she also serves on the Equity Ad Hoc Committee. In serving in these roles, she brings gained best practices back to her D25 Board discussions and continues to contribute a fresh perspective.

As an invested member of the Arlington Heights community, Anisha is also humbled to be nominated as the Vice President of the High School District 214 Education Foundation Board. Together with her husband Sajid, she absolutely loves raising her 4 children in Arlington Heights. They continue to do their part to make this a City of Good Neighbors. Sajid is a local engineering small business owner and volunteers on the Advisory Board of the Arlington Heights Library Foundation Board. Their eldest daughter was appointed by the Mayor to serve as a Youth Commissioner. Their second daughter is a volunteer with the League of Women Voters youth newsletter team. Their youngest two, who attend South Middle School and Dryden Elementary School spend their time immersed in school activities, and park district and other sports activities. In addition they enjoy time with friends especially at the local parks and always come up with incentives for a family visit to local ice-cream parlors.

Anisha is a global educator with over 23 years of experience as a teacher, professor, district-wide administrator, school leader and she currently serves as the Chief Consultant for InnovusEd. As a keen life-long learner, she is pursuing a Doctorate in Education in Organizational Change and Leadership at the University of Southern California. A participant of the Harvard Global Education Think Tank, Anisha began her journey attending an International School in Malawi-Africa. She was fortunate to have a multi-lingual upbringing and has traveled extensively which has included speaking engagements with the U.S. State Department internationally. Anisha moved to the U.S. as a first generation high school graduate to further her education. Honored as the Valedictorian of her graduating college class, she was also awarded academic merit scholarships and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign earning a Bachelors in Elementary Education with an emphasis on Cultural Geography and a Masters in Educational Administration and Leadership. She is passionate about civic engagement, especially nurturing women and youth in leadership and service. She has launched two philanthropic and personal development non profit organizations, one in her birth city in Malawi, Africa and another in Chicago. She is also the founder and national advisor for WomenEd US. Anisha was honored to be invited to a White House reception along with other national leaders.
