We like to share a different part of our collection every Wednesday on social media, and this week, being the first week of this year's National Library Card Sign-Up Month, we wanted to share some easy suggestions. Check out some of our recent favorites and bestsellers. But there's plenty more that you could take home with the endless possibilities that come with your library card.

September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, so we’re bringing back our special limited-edition library card, featuring Booker! And not just that, but a brand-new card also featuring Booker!

As you know, Booker is the mascot of the Lincoln Public Library and the Friends of the Lincoln Public Library, and now you take Booker everywhere with you. But which Booker will you choose?

But we also have a special Library Card PHOTO CONTEST that you can enter in September!

Just send us a photo of your library card to the library’s email address ~ [email protected] ~ to enter. Your photo could be a library card selfie, or a shelfie. It could be a picture of your library card in your favorite place in the library, or at home, or anywhere else on your travels. It could be your library card being used as a bookmark for your favorite book, or pictured along with your latest book haul after a check out spree. Just make it an interesting picture with your Lincoln Public Library card and you could win prizes!

Each week in September we will pick one random winner to take home a $25 gift card. AND at the end of the month we’ll pick another winner to receive the $75 gift card grand prize.

You can send one picture a day during September per person. We’ll share some of our favorite pictures online. And don’t forget our email address: [email protected].

These new library cards are available starting on Tuesday, September 1, for both new and existing cardholders. If you’re switching your existing card to one of the new cards, your library card number will change. We have a limited number of the special edition blue cards, available while supplies last. Your library card was already the best card in your wallet, bringing you so many different kinds of resources and access, but somehow it just got a little cooler.

We want to thank our Friends of the Lincoln Public Library for providing these great prizes and helping us to promote the coolest card in your wallet: your library card. And special thanks to Liz Gainer, who designed both of the new Booker cards!

Stay tuned for more fun things coming to your library: libraryatlincoln.org

Want to make a little art? Well, good, because the Tiny Art Show is coming back to the library this year at our Family Art Night in October. Share your artistic talents by participating in the Lincoln Public Library's Tiny Art Show!

Starting on Tuesday, September 1, you can pick up one of our Tiny Art Kits to create your entry (while supplies last). Kits include: a 4”x4” canvas, paints, and a brush. Let your inner Picasso or Van Gogh free and create your tiny masterpiece. Once you’ve finished, return it to the library by Monday, October 1 (or sooner!) to be part of the exhibit, which will be held at a Family Art Night at the Library in October.

Thanks to the Friends of the Lincoln Public Library for supporting the Tiny Art Show and Family Art Night, and so many other library programs.

We can't wait to see your art! Keep track of everything that your library is up to: https://libraryatlincoln.org

Rest in peace to American country singer, actor, author, philanthropist, and literacy advocate, Dolly Parton.

Dolly has always understood the importance of fostering a love of reading in children, and wanted to honor her father who grew up unable to read or write. So, in 1995 she launched the Imagination Library under her nonprofit, The Dollywood Foundation, and it remains the world’s leading early childhood book-gifting program.

The program has gifted more than 300 million free books to children across North America and parts of Europe, strengthening children’s early literacy skills and family reading habits on a global scale.

"My dream has always been to help children love books and love learning, no matter where they live." — Dolly Parton

Dolly's legacy lives on in all those who continue to carry out the mission of nourishing children's love of reading.

Hey Book Lovers, did you know that August is both Romance Awareness Month AND Read A Romance Month? It's a great time of the year for people to celebrate their love of love (in their books, at least). It also felt like a good theme for one of our Wednesday posts, in which we like to share just one part of our collection with you.

So, what's your favorite love story?
