Members at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans' Home spent some time at the Nebraska Vietnam Veterans Memorial earlier this week. We're so fortunate to have such a beautiful memorial dedicated to those who served in the Vietnam War close to one of our veterans' homes.

Women Veterans Recognition Day celebrates the signing of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act in 1948, but women's direct contributions to war efforts go back to America's founding. Since the revolutionary war, women have served in our armed forces, both in direct combat and support roles. Today, nearly one in five U.S. service members is a woman, and women veterans are the fastest growing group of veterans.
Our country's military history is incomplete without acknowledging the contributions of women. Today is a small way to recognize the women veterans who served courageously to protect our freedoms and paved the way for current and future women serving in the military.

This Marker Monday shares the tragic tale of the three Sage brothers from Niobrara who all lost their lives aboard the USS Frank E. Evans in June 1969.

Today marks 82 years since the Normandy Landings, the largest seaborne invasion in history. We take time today to remember the members of our armed forces who participated in D-Day. Without their courage, there is no Allied victory.
