Although ACCOA is not operating the pop-up pantry, a group of volunteers will be running it tomorrow, Wednesday, starting at 3, until food runs out; at the warehouse behind the senior center. The Northeast Michigan food bank does not allow boxes to be delivered to anyone. You have to pick them up in person per their regulations. Please ask the volunteers about any future pop-up pantry events.

Food Bank of Lincoln and Meijer Partner to Support Neighbors Facing Food Insecurity in
Alcona CountyThrough Retailer’s Simply Give Hunger Relief Program

By Karen Hughes, Coordinator

Our community continues to feel the impacts of COVID-19, especially our neighbors facing food insecurity. The economic impact of this pandemic means more and more members of our community are turning to us for help in ensuring they know where their next meal will come from. Food Bank of Lincoln has seen demand increase by insert % since March 2020, and the new year continues to bring great need and challenges to our community.
In response, I’m pleased to announce that Food Bank of Lincoln has joined forces with the Meijer Simply Give hunger relief program during this difficult time to help fill that void for our local families.
Each Simply Give campaign helps more than 250 food pantries in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Wisconsin keep their shelves stocked with food for those in need. But it also fosters a sense of community by encouraging customers to purchase $10 Simply Give donation cards, which are then converted into Meijer food-only gift cards and given to the local food pantry selected by the store.
Food Bank of Lincoln will benefit from donation cards purchased at the Alpena Meijer store now through Apr. 2.
I want to encourage you to help us fulfill our mission of helping feed the hungry in Alcona County by purchasing a food donation card during your next shopping trip. Tell your friends, relatives, neighbors and co-workers because every dollar makes a difference. Whether you shop in-store or online using Meijer pickup or home delivery, I ask you to consider adding a Simply Give donation card to your basket.
And when we give, Meijer gives. For every $10 Simply Give donation card purchased on Saturday, Mar. 5 and Saturday, Mar. 26, Meijer will double match the contribution meaning they will donate an additional
$20. This means our pantry will receive a total of $30 for every $10 a customer donates on that day. We are very encouraged about this opportunity to serve Alcona County.
