Honoring Our Fallen Heroes: Lincoln Heights Memorial Day 2026
On Memorial Day, the Village of Lincoln Heights came together to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
Residents, veterans, elected officials, families, and community partners gathered for a moving afternoon of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude. The ceremony was led by Master of Ceremonies and Vietnam Veteran Richard Haden, who guided attendees through a program dedicated to preserving the memory of those who gave their lives in defense of our freedoms.
Mayor Tonya Key welcomed attendees, followed by remarks from Councilwoman Phyllis Baber honoring the service and sacrifice of our nation's veterans.
Commander Frank offered reflections of American Legion Post 631, and keynote speaker J.C. Battle delivered a message reminding us of the enduring importance of Memorial Day.
Jim Gorrell of the Hamilton County Veterans Service Commission provided additional remarks. Lavern Mitchell shared a heartfelt poem, while Commander Aaron Cunningham of DVA Chapter 1 led the solemn ceremony in honor of our fallen heroes. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office also led a reef dedication ceremony, and Bishop Curtis Smith delivered the closing prayer.
