LCPD recently received a $3000 grant from the Walter R. Behrens Foundation Designated Fund of Oregon Community Foundation to purchase and donate books for local youths. This year we divided the donation between the Samaritan Early Learning Center and Backpacks for Kids. LCPD is proud to continue to provide these book donations and share the joy of reading and spread the message that Reading is FUNdamental.

APRIL DISTRACTED DRIVING ENFORCEMENT

Every April, Law Enforcement agencies across the nation participate in "High Visibility Enforcement" campaigns focused on reducing the number of drivers distracted by cellular phones and other electronic devices on our roadways. Thanks to additional funding from Oregon Impact through the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles, the Lincoln City Police Department was able to staff six additional traffic safety shifts in April.

During these efforts, Officers patrolled the city, leading to 45 traffic stops, the issuance of multiple citations, one arrest for Felony Attempted Elude of Police Officer by a driver with a suspended license, and a separate arrest for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants.

Although this grant period has ended, Officers of the Lincoln City Police Department will remain vigilant in protecting the users of our public roadways. We remind all drivers that there is always time for your text message or social media post once you reach your destination. Drive safely and focus on the road.

BEWARE OF CURRENT PHONE SCAM

A new widespread scam is being sent to phone numbers all over Oregon. LCPD staff members have also received it this week. This is not a legitimate notice from the Multnomah County Circuit Court. Do not scan the QR code (we blocked it out for this post). Do not reply to this message, or call any phone numbers listed in the document. Do not send personal information, money, or gift cards to anyone claiming to be a government official over the phone.

A great reminder from the Oregon State Police. Just because there isn't a "No Parking" sign, doesn't mean you can block travel lanes. This applies to city streets as well.

Love the Trails? Keep Parking Safe and Legal

We’re excited about the great weather too — and like any true Oregonian, we can’t wait to enjoy the scenic beauty with day hikes and other outdoor adventures. Just remember: blocking the highway to get to your favorite trailhead is never a good idea. If you can’t find a safe, legal place to park, please continue on until you do.

We all play a part in keeping Oregon’s highways safe. Let’s look out for each other out there.

April 12th through 18th is National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, or Dispatch Appreciation Week!

The Lincoln City Police Department staffs an in-house dispatch center, the only 911 emergency and public safety answering point on the central Oregon coast.

Our dispatch center works hard every day to take calls in and around our city, answering 911 and non-emergency calls and dispatching for LCPD and North Lincoln Fire Rescue.

Our dispatchers are the unseen heroes of public safety, quickly getting the information that officers and firefighters need to help the public. They are trained to offer EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) services, including talking people through CPR in life-threatening emergencies.

Their calm demeanor and skills have helped our agency and NLFR save countless lives. They also provide after-hours administrative services for Newport Oregon Police Department and do a lot of the “behind-the-scenes” work to help us identify and locate victims and suspects.

Without the hard work of our local center, we would not have the quality law enforcement or fire and medical response that our city deserves. Please join the Lincoln City Police Department in thanking our Public Safety Telecommunicators this week!
