We often discuss the critical impact of training and showcase to the community the importance and the hours needed to perform our best. The past two days several members learned new and refreshed skills with pumping and water supply. The class was taught by Marty Shelton through Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy. Just a little after midnight, departments were alerted to a structure fire involving a barn. The barn held hay and was connected to a loafing shed and old milk parlor. It also had silos and tool sheds with equipment beside the barn. Upon arrival crews found heavy flames in the hay barn area. The fire was quickly attacked with a master stream stopping the spread of the fire. We were assisted by Newmansville Volunteer Fire Department, Tusculum Volunteer Fire Department, Sulphur Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Greene County TN Sheriff's Department. DEBUSK volunteer fire dept. Tusculum Fire established a water supply from a nearby creek and supplied water for ladder operations and an engine along with tanker shuttle to the rear of the barn. One cow near the structure and was saved by crews. The fire was stopped with the hay barn section being a loss, but the rest saved and equipment protected. Thankful for no injuries or loss of animals.

Forty-eight departments and rescue squads received a total of $2.1 million. It's part of $25 million in state funding designated for fire departments, volunteer fire departments, and rescue squads.
