Chief Vogel was born and raised in Defiance, Ohio, and is a graduate of Defiance High School. He holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Administration and Investigation. He is currently completing his Master’s Degree in Executive Leadership in Public Administration through Columbia Southern University, as well as the Executive Fire Officer Program through the National Fire Academy.

Chief Vogel spent 14 years with Defiance Fire and Rescue, beginning as a part-time firefighter and working his way through the ranks to Lieutenant and ultimately Captain.

He and his wife, Samantha, have two sons, Gavin and Bryant, and currently reside in Defiance. Craig is very passionate about education and training within the fire service and works as an instructor as well. Outside of the fire service, he enjoys coaching youth football and baseball, umpiring baseball, hunting, the outdoors, and music.

Chief Vogel is thrilled for the opportunity to serve the Bath Township community and the men and women of the Bath Township Fire Department, and looks forward to building on the department’s strong foundation and serving the community for years to come.

Today is a special day as Firefighter Gavin Butler works his last shift with BTFD before enlisting in the U.S. Army.

Tonight, members of the department and Gavin’s family gathered for dinner to wish him good luck.

Today’s on-duty crew took one of our new part-time firefighters to the Lima Ford Engine Plant for a tour. It was a great opportunity for our newest member to become familiar with the facility, while also providing a valuable refresher for some of our senior firefighters.

Knowing our local facilities and the hazards within them is an important part of being prepared to serve our community when an emergency occurs.

A big thank you to BTFD firefighter Travis Fillhart for taking time out of his day to provide the tour and share his knowledge with the crew!

Earlier this week, we welcomed a representative from ZOLL to demonstrate their newest cardiac monitors. As we begin budgeting for new monitors next year, it’s important that we take the time to evaluate different brands and find the equipment that best fits the needs of our department.

Cardiac monitors are a significant investment, and we want to make sure we are being good stewards of your tax dollars while providing our crews with the best tools possible to care for our community.

Then, earlier today, our members participated in department-wide water rescue training. Crews practiced operating and becoming familiar with our rescue boat, along with running different scenarios focused on safely getting victims out of the water and into the boat.

A big thank-you to the Park District for allowing us to use the lake this morning, and to Allen County EMA for bringing their drone out to assist with our training.

Training, preparation, and responsible spending are all part of our commitment to keeping Bath Township safe.
